Kevin Costner Talks Working With ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Again
Kevin Costner was a big part of what made Yellowstone such a successful show. Following his exit from the hit western, Costner recently opened up about whether or not he would ever consider working with Taylor Sheridan again. So, what did the veteran actor have to say?

Kevin Costner in a Western drama has always made sense. Whether it was alongside Robert Duvall in 2003’s Open Range or opposite Bill Paxton in the Hatfields & McCoys miniseries in 2012, many fans agree that Kevin Costner is at his best as an actor when he has a cowboy hat and a gun.
Naturally, when it was first announced that Costner would play family patriarch John Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, it was a match made in cinema heaven. This is the kind of role that Costner was born to play, and he filled John Dutton’s boots in a way that only he could.
Fans Still Heartbroken Over Costner’s Exit From Popular Show
In the last few years, Yellowstone is right up there with some of the best television currently being produced today. In many ways, depending on who you ask, viewers mention Yellowstone in the same breath as other heavy hitters like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and more.
So, when Kevin Costner ultimately left Yellowstone in May of 2023, fans were heartbroken. This was especially true because Costner left such an iconic role. In addition, his departure put the future of the franchise on hold.
Will Actor Ever Work With Creator Taylor Sheridan Again Following Sour Exit?
Things like scheduling conflicts played a role in Costner ultimately leaving Yellowstone. In addition to that, the decision to split Season 5 into two parts also played a role. According to Costner, “they [Yellowstone] walked away” when it came to contract negotiations and pay.
Even though Costner left Yellowstone on bad terms, he isn’t completely closing the door on working with show creator Taylor Sheridan again in the future. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Costner said: “If he sees me in something that he wants to do, I’ll look at it just the way I did Yellowstone and maybe we will end up doing something together.”
Costner went on to add: “He likes a lot of the things that I like and the idea of us working together is not out of the question for me.”
Regardless of the things that got between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner, there’s no question that they make quite the team when they work together. Fans of both would love nothing more than to see both men work on a future project down the line, and it looks like Kevin Coster is open to continuing their working relationship.
