Mama June’s Ex, Sugar Bear Thompson Related To Daughter’s Husband?
There was a period of time when it looked like Pumpkin’s husband, Josh Efird was working with Sugar Bear Thompson. He was a staple of the family’s first reality series, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Not only was he Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson’s father but also Mama June’s longtime partner. He also served as a father figure to June’s three other girls from previous relationships. After they appeared on Marriage Boot Camp, the romance ended but he still popped up on From Not to Hot with his new lady, Jennifer Lamb.
It eventually came out that Josh never worked with Sugar Bear and that was simply a storyline. Additionally, Pumpkin revealed that Sugar Bear had been abusive toward her but HCHBB production as well as June covered it up. He eventually turned his rights to Alana over to Pumpkin and Josh as did June but now, something interesting has come out. June posted something on social media about a death in the family but it was written very incoherently. Therefore, it made its way to a Reddit thread.
Though fans could not understand what she had written, yet they caught on to something happening with the Kitchen family. It was initially believed that this was Pumpkin’s husband’s side and then more came from it. As fans dug deeper, it appeared Josh and Sugar Bear were actually related:

- Yea I was weirded out by that too when I found out like a month ago. So Alana and Josh are cousins and in laws, Alana and Ella are cousins and aunt/niece.
Who Passed?
Though this information is to digest, it was finally cleared up who passed away. As it turns out, it was Josh Efird’s grandmother. Pumpkin revealed this information on her recent live:
- Just saw on pumpkins live sale, that it’s Josh’s grandma that passed. Really wanted to comment about when are the “freshies” gonna be available 😆
That was in reference to the memorial freshies that Pumpkin and Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson made days after Anna Cardwell passed away. Some thought this was too soon and very tacky. This has been an amazingly well-kept secret, especially by Mama June who spills everything.
