‘American Idol’ Jelly Roll Ready To Be New Judge?

American Idol Jelly Roll Ready To Be New Judge?

This season of American Idol is bittersweet as it is Katy Perry’s last one. Since the reality singing competition was revived in 2018, it has been Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie at the judge’s table. Now, with her announcement that she will be leaving after this season, her chair must be filled. Names have been thrown around as to who the show would want. Someone like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and former judge, Jennifer Lopez have been mentioned. At the same time, it would have to be someone who stands out and would gel very well with Richie and Bryan in the same way that Perry does.

Jelly Roll has been mentoring the singers this season as well as performing. He has a lot of insight and amazing stories to tell. The one thing that Jelly does when he is on tour is make frequent stops at prisons and detention centers. He has been in that position in the past so he wants to show inmates there is light at the end of the tunnel. That being said, Katy Perry believes that he would be the perfect fit to fill her shoes when she exits American Idol.

According to E! News, Perry had this to say:

“I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show. I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything. So I love him. And to have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!”

She also noted what kind of person would make the best judge:

“I want a truth teller. I want someone that is not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way.”

Does He Have The Time?

The biggest question would be if Jelly Roll would have the time to dedicate to American Idol. He is going out on tour starting August 2024 but it ends in October 2024. Therefore, he could theoretically make the time to join the show if they asked him. However, would they want an all-male panel? That is questionable but time will tell who will fill Katy Perry’s shoes.
