Roma Downey’s TV Return With New Series ‘The Baxters’

Roma Downey, the star of Touched By An Angel, is returning to television. Her return is in time for the 30th anniversary of Touched By An Angel which also starred the late Della Reese and the late John Dye. The new series has been titled The Baxters.

No One Has Forgotten Touched By An Angel

Even after several decades, no one has forgotten Touched By An Angel. This wildly popular show starred Roma Downey as the angel Monica. Della Reese, who passed away at the age of 86 in 2017, portrayed Tess. Tess the “supervising angel.” The Angel of Death was portrayed by John Dye. At the age of 47, he passed away from acute methamphetamine intoxication.

Fans of Touched By An Angel have been hoping for a reboot for a very long time. Sadly, this doesn’t appear to be possible. “That’s not a bad idea, unfortunately, we see all these reboots and a lot of the original cast, Della unfortunately has passed and John Dye, our wonderful angel of death, also passed over,” Roma Downey said. “I always was hoping that wonderful angel of death came for both of them and lead them home.”

Roma Downey’s New Series

Roma Downey is making her return to television with The Baxters. After all these years of being away from television, Roma Downey is excited to be returning with another series. This new television series is based on a series of books.

“Somebody gave me the book and I was reading them on the plane and I could not put them down. I was like firing through it. I thought, ‘This is great story, great characters, this has to be a TV show,'” Roma Downey stated. “I called Karen up and I asked her if she would entrust me… we started over our conversation by saying, ‘I believe this is the time, I think we need a show like this on television; I think it will bring families together.'”

The Baxters Is A “Hope Opera”

The Baxters will be chronicling the lives of a two parents and their large family. The talented actress will be portraying the matriarch, Elizabeth Baxter.

Roma Downey explained as “a bit like a soap opera, but we think it’s best to call it a hope opera. It models family well. They’re not perfect people, there’s some dysfunction, they have issues like everybody else, but I think that makes them very relatable.”

Roma Downey’s new series can be seen on Prime Video. The premiere will be today, March 28th. Roma Downey believes the series is a “Easter weekend binge for families.”
