Dean McDermott’s Drug Addiction Leads Him To A New Career
Undoubtedly, Dean McDermott has been through a journey to recovery. While he and his estranged wife, Tori Spelling, have parted ways after eighteen years of marriage, he is finding his way through turning a new leaf. During Dean’s struggle with drugs and alcohol addiction, he discovered a new career path along the way.
Dean McDermott Discuss His Battle With Sobriety
During an interview with Page Six, Dean McDermott opens up about his battle with sobriety. Some of the best advice he gave was to ask for help. He says, “I am clean and sober … I got to a place where I finally surrendered and admitted that I needed help.” Then he adds, “The way I was running my life, the way I was running the show was not right.” Admittedly, he knows, “Not, good for anybody — myself, my family and Tori [Spelling]. It was a horrible way to live. So I finally surrendered and asked for help, and I got it.” Additionally, he credits both Harmony Place Treatment Center in Woodland Hills, CA, and Freedom House Sober Living for saving his life.
Dean McDermott Discovers New Tools To Help
When Dean McDermott entered a six-day-per-week treatment facility, he was able to attend groups to strengthen him in his struggle. But he acknowledges how hard it is to start treatment. He says, “It’s amazing when we ask — it’s a simple thing, but very difficult to do when you’re at the end of your rope and don’t know where to turn.” However, once he sought help he knew he was “all in.” Furthermore, he expresses, “Coming in at 55 years old — it’s just not a good look. I had to get this right.” Each day, he would show up for four groups, six days a week.
Although hesitant at first, he attended a breathworks course as part of his commitment to do it at “100%.” But it changed his life. He says, “I was like, OK, I don’t know what that is.” Admittedly, even thought to himself, “It sounds a little artsy fartsy. But I made a deal, I’m all in, so I’ll give it a try.” And he was thankful he did. Saying, “So I gave it a try, and I fell in love with it. It changed my life. The very first session I’ve ever had.”
Finding A New Career Path
Additionally, the treatment has led Dean McDermott to find a new career path. When he learned more about breathwork, he fell in love with it. As he went through his journey he decided to open the Conscious Community Global. “I work in recovery today because of my experience, in treatment and sober living.” Notably, his experience drove him to help others. He adds, “I’m an alcohol and drug counselor, and I work with other treatment centers. I work with alcoholics and addicts and help them find the path, that I found and the one that I’m on now. It’s incredibly rewarding.” Dean partnered to open a community to assist others in their journey. He says, “We’re a one-stop shop for things that you need at a treatment center or an outpatient program — sound baths, yoga, breath process groups, you name it, we can facilitate it.”
Dean McDermott Has Great Support
In addition to helping others through their recovery, Dean McDermott is still pursuing acting. He says, “I’m fortunate I got to discover a gift I have.” Adding, “I have a gift to help people in this capacity as well as my gift for acting. I’m very fortunate that I have two gifts and two passions that I get to pursue in my life. So I’ll continue with the drug and alcohol rehabilitation and acting. I never left.” Along his journey, he says Tori Spelling has been his number-one supporter. Admittedly, sometimes even at the expense of her happiness. Additionally, Dean’s current girlfriend, Lily Calo is offering daily support in his sobriety efforts.
