Wendy Williams’ Brother Tommy Breaks Silence About Lifetime Documentary
Wendy Williams’ brother, Tommy Williams, has broken his silence regarding the Lifetime documentary and his sister’s health struggles. He spoke out about what the family thought the docuseries was going to be about initially compared to what is being aired now. Continue reading to see what he had to say about it all.
Wendy Willliams’ Brother Says ‘Everybody Was On Board’
Tommy Williams spoke with Entertainment Tonight about his initial reaction to the Lifetime doc. Nischelle Turner asked him what he thought about the docuseries going into it. What was initially supposed to be a series that followed Wendy on her road back to the spotlight turned out to be something else entirely.
He said that he thought his sister was getting better. When the family learned about the documentary being filmed, Tommy thought that it was Wendy’s way of making it back on television and making her way back to the person she used to be. “Why doubt it?” he asked on ET. “She’s been through so many obstacles in the past.”
At the time, he said that he genuinely thought she was getting better and that she was just going to get back to doing what she’d always done. However, what people are seeing in the Lifetime documentary is something completely different.
Wendy Williams’ brother also pointed out that no one related to her had been able to lay eyes on her at that time. Once she was put under guardianship, their contact with her became extremely limited. When it came to filming though, “Everybody was on board,” he shared.
When he was finally able to visit Wendy, he said that he noticed that she was drinking more. “That was her preference,” Tommy shared. He said that his sister never showed any signs of dementia to him though. Any time Tommy Williams has spoken to the former talk show host, he says she sounds like she’s doing fine.
On the other hand, other family members have been extremely vocal about the changes they saw in Wendy Williams and how they wanted to be involved in helping her get better. Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., expressed that he wanted the family to be appointed her guardians.
Every Conversation With Wendy Is ‘Exciting’
The star’s brother also opened up about his communication with Wendy. Tommy Williams said that he makes himself available and waits for her call every week. “Each time we get on the phone, it’s exciting,” he told Nischelle Turner. “She does sound upbeat and happy… because she’s talking to the people she wants to be with.”
Then the Entertainment Tonight reporter asked him about how it felt when Wendy Williams called him Kevin in the docuseries. She asked Tommy, “Is that when you realized that Wendy’s condition was getting worse?” Because they get so little time with Wendy, he said that he didn’t want to ruin the moment.

That seems to be what stops the family from pushing to find out where she is and pushing to become her guardians. Tommy says that they are simply trying to take advantage of what little time they do get with Wendy.
Once they learned more about the documentary, Tommy said that he felt his sister was not ready to be part of a production yet. He said that he has not yet sat down to watch the entire docuseries yet. Without the documentary, however, Tommy says the family may not have gotten as involved as they are. There is a lot of regret in not getting involved sooner.
Tommy Williams also said that the family is looking forward to being part of the discussion when it comes time to renew the guardianship again. “There is no doubt in my mind that we will be able to help Wendy,” he said.
