‘The View’ Sunny Hostin Opens Up About Wendy Williams’ Health
The View cohost Sunny Hostin got emotional when opening up about Wendy Williams’ guardianship and health struggles. In the wake of the Lifetime docuseries Where Is Wendy Williams? many stars have come forward to share some of their memories of Wendy and their thoughts on her current situation. Keep reading to see what Sunny Hostin shared about her relationship with Wendy Williams.
Sunny Hostin Shares Her Connection To Wendy Williams
Where Is Wendy Williams? debuted on Lifetime over the weekend. The four-part docuseries followed Wendy after her talk show ended and led to her being put under financial guardianship.
“I had the pleasure of being Wendy’s legal eagle on her radio show, so we’ve known each other for a really long time,” Sunny shared on Tuesday’s episode of The View. “I had the pleasure of getting to know her personally and also professionally, so [the docuseries] was very painful for me to watch.”
Sunny Hostin watched the documentary with Wendy Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie. Alex appeared on The View last week to discuss the series prior to its release on February 24. Sunny said that she wanted to watch it with someone who is close to Wendy because she wanted to “understand what happened to my friend.”

“I think that if anything good comes of [the docuseries], what people should know is that she signed this deal to do these three documentaries before she was incapacitated,” Sunny told the other hosts on The View. “So this was something that she wanted to do, she wanted her family to be involved and it was supposed to be a show about her comeback, but she was in the throes of addiction.”
The View cohost went on to remind everyone in the audience that on top of dealing with health issues and addiction, a number of other things were thrown at Wendy. She endured the pandemic, as everyone in the world was doing at the time. Additionally, she went through an extremely public divorce where her husband fathered another child outside of their marriage. Then, she lost her mother. “So we’re seeing a confluence that I think would take anyone out,” Sunny said. “But she’s still standing.”
The View Cohost Talks About Guardianship
Sunny Hostin also shared her thoughts regarding Wendy’s guardianship. A few days before the docuseries was released, Wendy Williams’ medical care team shared the star’s official diagnosis. She was diagnosed with Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
Given that information, Sunny questioned how the courts handled Wendy Williams’ guardianship. In people with dementia, Sunny Hostin shared, it usually helps to be around people that they know. “Being around family members can actually be quite helpful. It brings back memories,” she said.

Wendy Williams’ family has expressed the desire to be involved in her life and help her through this difficult time as well. Tommy Williams, her brother, said that he wished they could give her her freedom back.
However, it is unlikely that Wendy will ever gain her freedom from the guardianship. It was revealed by an expert in the docuseries that 90% of people who are in guardianship are not able to get out of them. Sunny spoke about that fact, saying, “That’s a system that may be broken, and that’s a system we may need to look at a little bit more.”
At the end of the day, Sunny Hostin wishes Wendy Williams the best. “I hope I get to see my friend again,” she said.
