Todd and Julie Chrisley sit in separate prisons after their fraud and tax-related convictions. However, things have not stagnated, and they won a settlement from the state of Georgia. Now, the Feds want their piece of the pie. However, it looks like they made their move too late.

Todd & Julie Chrisley Imprisoned After Found Innocent?

Many Chrisley Knows Best fans seem a bit confused because the former USA Network stars were found innocent of tax evasion in Georgia in 2019. The reality TV stars believed they were innocent, and a recent $1 million settlement has been paid to them. If you don’t know, their legal team won a case against Joshua Waites, the former Director of Special Investigations of Georgia’s Department of Revenue.

Despite their innocence in the case by the state of Georgia, Todd and Julie Chrisley were also indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in Atlanta. The court found them guilty, and a lot of people crow about it. However, loyal Chrisley Knows Best fans smell a rat. Firstly, they won a filing for oral arguments in an appeal. Of note, that’s a rare occurrence. Secondly, it’s rarer for a settlement to be paid to convicted felons.

Feds Want Their Piece Of The $1 Million Settlement

According to Radar Online, the settlement went to “a firm handling Todd and Julie’s appeal battle, in which [Jay] Surgent serves as co-counsel.” And, it’s already been used to pay off “debts.” However, the Feds want it to help settle the cour-ordered “restitution” in the Atlanta case. Citing communication by Surgent, the outlet explained more about the money granted to Todd and Julie Chrisley.

They knew the $1 million was released but didn’t do anything about it until now…They should have taken action to block the distribution and argued for the funds as soon as the settlement happened, [and] they took no judicial action before the $1 million was released.

In the meantime, the Feds’ appeal to get their hands on the cash awaits a ruling by a judge. Probably, in the opinion of Surgent, they are “too late.”

Other news arrived that Todd and Julie sold their large Tennesse home and Chrisley Knows Best fans wondered if that was used to pay some restitution. However, it’s unclear if that happened or not. Apparently, their legal team feels that payment might look like an admission of guilt while they appeal their conviction.

What are your thoughts about the Feds making their bid for the money too late? Are you glad that the money helped to pay some debts? Do you hope that the judge overrules the claim by the Feds? Shout out in the comments below, and come back here for all your Chrisley Knows Best family news.
