Todd and Julie Chrisley of Chrisley Knows Best have just scored a huge legal win and massive payday. Furthermore, their family attorney stated this win is also a huge step in finally getting the couple vindicated. Could this be the lucky break Todd and Julie have been waiting for? Todd & Julie Chrisley Snag Huge Legal Win & Payday
According to Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP, the couple’s family attorney, they just had a massive legal win. People Magazine reports Todd and Julie’s lawyer issued a statement with the exciting news yesterday.
“We have been saying for months that the criminal case against the Chrisleys was highly unusual and had real problems. This settlement is an encouraging sign.”
Turns out, Todd and Julie were just awarded a $1 million settlement against the state of Georgia. The settlement was for their case against the former Director of Special Investigations of Georgia’s Department of Revenue, Joshua Waites. Their lawyer’s statement continued:
“It’s nearly unprecedented for one arm of the government to pay money to defendants when another arm is fighting to keep them in jail.”
Unlawful Targeting
Todd and Julie Chrisley took legal action against Joshua Waites for unlawful “targeting” after they were cleared of tax evasion in the state of Georgia back in 2019.
The lawsuit with the claims against Joshua Waites and the state of Georgia claimed: “a shocking example of how an out-of-control public servant can abuse his office and violate the rights of innocent citizens for reasons that have more to do with securing publicity and money for his office than with enforcing the law.”
Todd Chrisley & Daughter Lindsie: Victims
Per the lawsuit, Joshua Waites was accused of obsessively targeting Todd Chrisley as well as his oldest daughter Lindsie. Lindsie was estranged from her father at the time. So, the lawsuit alleged that Waites tried to use the status of their relationship against Todd. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that Lindsie did not give Joshua what he wanted. So, he allegedly presented Lindsie with confidential tax information to pressure her into helping him.
The lawsuit continues to claim Joshua Waites was not successful in his quest against the Chrisley family. He, however, did a lot of financial and emotional damage to them as a result. So, the lawsuit was looking for compensation for the problems this failed witch hunt caused.
While they were cleared of charges in this state case, Todd and Julie went on to face federal charges for similar crimes. The charges included multiple counts of wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy. Todd and Julie Chrisley, however, continue to deny the allegations against them. Fortunately, their lawyer believes this legal win and settlement is just what they need to successfully fight the federal charges.
