‘General Hospital’ Who Is Jagger Cates?
The character John “Jagger” Cates made a surprise comeback on General Hospital on February 2. Adam Harrington will be playing the role, originally played by Antonio Sabato, Jr. Keep reading to learn more about Jagger Cates and the storyline that led up to the reprisal of the role in 2024.
Jagger Cates’ Storyline On General Hospital
John “Jagger” Cates first appeared on General Hospital in 1992. Jagger was an orphan and hanging out with the wrong crowd. He and two of his friends attempted to rob Kelly’s. When one of his friends pulled a gun and fired at Ruby, Jagger stepped in the way and took a bullet to the neck. While he was recovering in General Hospital, the Port Charles Police Department made threats to arrest him if he didn’t identify the friends who were with him when they robbed Kelly’s. However, his thug friends threatened his life if he told.
After being discharged from the hospital, Jagger got a lucky break when Ruby refused to testify against him. Bill Eckert saw Jagger struggling as a homeless teen and decided to give him a job and Ruby allowed him to live in the apartment above Kelly’s. That’s where Jagger encountered Karen. Although she was dating Jason Quartermaine at the time, she had growing feelings for Jagger Cates.

Jagger Cates started attending school at Port Charles High in the fall and his classmate Brenda Barrett had a crush on him. Brenda knew how Karen felt about Jagger but pursued him anyway. By the end of the school year, he and Brenda were sleeping together.
Because it’s General Hospital, their romance didn’t last long without any trouble. Unfortunately for Brenda, Jagger, and Karen eventually got a moment alone together. Jagger took Karen to a college interview on his motorcycle. The pair wound up stranded in a snowstorm. During the storm, they came clean about their true feelings.
Karen decided that she wanted to break up with Jason to be with Jagger. A bitter Brenda didn’t take the news well though. She took secret nude photos of Karen in the girls’ locker room and slipped them into the lockers of boys around school. After seeing Jason comforting Karen, Jagger determined she’d be better off with the Quartermaine boy and left town.
How Long Will Jagger’s Character Be Back On GH?
He didn’t stay away for long though. He resurfaced at the school’s Valentine’s Day dance, where he once again declared his love for Karen. She left Jason at the dance and went off with Jagger. Eventually, the couple said their vows at Kelly’s and left Port Charles to start their new life as a married couple in Chicago. They would return to Port Charles periodically to visit.

In 1997, Karen returned to General Hospital without Jagger Cates by her side. She revealed that he remained in San Francisco, where he was working as a police officer. Their marriage was struggling. By the end of the year, the pair were divorced. Then, in 2003, Karen’s character was killed off General Hospital.
Jagger came back to Port Charles for a short time in 2008 on GH: Night Shift. However, the return was short-lived. Right now, there are no details about where Jagger Cates’ storyline will go in 2024 or how long he will be back on the show.
