Why did Jeremy Clarkson pull the plug on The Grand Tour? The Clarkson’s Farm star recently revealed why he, Richard Hammond, and James May are leaving the Amazon Prime series.

Why are they leaving?

Why Did Jeremy Clarkson Pull The Plug On The Grand Tour?

Although The Grand Tour has two episodes left for Amazon Prime to drop, the series as it is will be done. That is because Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will not be returning.

According to Deadline, Clarkson told The Times Of London that the crazy car trips were hard to maintain. The 63-year-old star admitted that filming an episode of The Grand Tour was “Immensely physical. He shared that when “You’re unfit and fat and old” the remote locations were physically taxing.

However, Clarkson, Hammond, and May have spent decades doing all sorts of antics between this Amazon Prime series and their original series, Top Gear. Moreover, Jeremy does not seem regretful whatsoever.

“I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”

In other words, they had a blast, but this is the end of an era. But, is this the end of the series?

The Amazon Prime Series Is Not Ending

Although Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will be ending their time on The Grand Tour, that does not mean the series is ending. According to Amazon’s Studios Head of Unscripted in the UK, Fozia Khan, this is just a comma. Khan envisions the series returning with different presenters by stating, “It’s come to a natural end.”

Currently, they are “thinking about” how they will bring the brand back. They be in the development phase for years.

Ironically, ever since the trio left the BBC’s Top Gear, they have been trying to do the same thing. Even Friends star Matt LeBlanc was a presenter. But, after a horrific crash in 2022, where presenter Freddie Flintoff suffered life-changing injuries, their series is on hold.

Therefore, Amazon has quite a challenge in front of them. It may be hard to replace the trio who were once described as “the holy trinity of presenters.”

When Will The Final Episodes Of The Grand Tour Drop?

There are two episodes of The Grand Tour. They will both air in 2024. So far, Amazon has not announced a premiere.

However, IMDb has shared that the Season 5 episode  Sand Job will air in February 2024.

According to the synopsis, “In the remote African country of Mauritania, trio follow in the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally. Instead of bespoke Dakar racers, the boys must complete their journey in cheap modified sports cars.”

The final episode was filmed in Zimbabwe. That episode will air on Amazon Prime later in the year.

The Grand Tour fans, what do you think of Jeremy Clarkson’s comments on why they are leaving this series?
