She said she has been constantly frustrated by her baby hitting his mouth on the table and putting his mouth on dirty surfaces. This gave her an idea for an improvement on the regular baby eating placemats.
She then used her position as a project manager to find a solution. Since there were no good options for her concerns, she had developed her own placemat. It not only keeps babies from hitting their mouths on the table, but it also contains messes. As an additional plus, it also provides a clean surface for those babies to are teething.
Berlyn launched the Table Tyke in 2020 after she found a manufacturer who could create it based on her specifications. They created her innovative bumper design. She then went to TikTok to build awareness and when it went viral there, she sold hundreds within days.
The idea is that there is a bumper edge that folds over the side of the table. Now, when a baby places their head down to teeth on the table edge, they are only using the cushioned bumper, which is cleaner than the table it was placed on. It is also BPA-free, non-toxic, and conforms to FDA standards. It then rolls up and is easy to transport and clean.
