Controversial Comic Matt Rife Nearly Appeared On ‘Pump Rules’
Comedian Matt Rife found himself in hot water after his controversial Netflix special. He nearly appeared on Vanderpump Rules, why? Keep reading for all the details.
Matt Rife Canceled After Uproar?
Matt Rife first gained attention for his comedy on TikTok. He got a huge first break into the mainstream with a comedy special for Netflix.
Natural Selection debuted on the streamer in November, and Matt Rife was almost immediately canceled for his jokes. He kicked off the special with a joke about domestic violence and spent the rest of his stand-up act targeting women – the very fan base that built his success.
In response to the public outrage, Matt doubled down and made a joke about the disabled community.
Despite claims that the comedian has been a victim of cancel culture, his career doesn’t seem to be in jeopardy at all. He’s currently on his ProbleMATTic world tour.
Controversial Comic Matt Rife Nearly Appeared On Pump Rules
Before he gained fame as a comedian, did Matt Rife try to get into the reality TV business?
Vanderpump Rules star Katie Maloney shared what could have been. In the debut episode of her new podcast with former co-star Dayna Kathan, Katie spilled the dirt on her connection to Matt Rife.
They both said they enjoyed Matt Rife’s comedy until his Netflix special.
Before his career took a controversial turn, the Vanderpump Rules vet admitted that she ‘slid’ into Matt’s DMs.
They have a mutual friend in common, and the friend talked to Matt about going on a blind date with Katie while Bravo cameras were filming.
The Bravolebrity explained that this was before he became famous on TikTok.
She said that he was “all about” making an appearance on the show but couldn’t make a date at the last minute, per Us Weekly.
This was during filming for Season 10, so if Matt had made an appearance, it would have been overshadowed anyway. The season was dominated by Tom Sandoval’s affair with his co-star.
Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules premieres in just a few weeks. The season will focus on the fallout of Tom cheating on Ariana Madix last season.
Who knows – an appearance on Vanderpump Rules could have boosted Matt Rife’s aspiring career. After all, most of the original VPR cast were aspiring models/actors.
What do you think of Matt Rife almost appearing on the Bravo show? Is it a missed opportunity for him, or did it turn out for the best? Share your thoughts in the comments.
