Why Is TLC Silent On Caleb Willingham’s Death?

Caleb Willingham married Tammy Slaton before he passed away at the age of 40, so why is there no notification in 1000-Lb Sisters Season 5 scenes about his death? After all, not everyone may know he died. At the beginning of the current season, the recap revealed Tammy with Caleb, but no warning card about his death popped up on TLC.

TLC Fans – What Up With Caleb Willingham’s Death?

The news that Tammy’s husband had passed away came after news of their divorce had already been circulating among fans. Despite being in a facility with care workers who tried to assist him, he could not be revived after being found unresponsive. Given his weight, it was not entirely unexpected, but, surprisingly, TLC didn’t post an “in memory” card card.

TLC made sure to cover the wedding between Tammy Slaton and Caleb Willingham, but they don’t seem to worry about shocking people who are unaware that he died. Technically, they did cover his death when filming his funeral, but even Tammy claimed it was all staged for drama.

No ‘In Memory’ Notification In 1000-Lb Sisters?

Taking into Reddit, one unhappy viewer shared their concerns:

Anyone think it’s kind of ghoulish that TLC has yet to air any kind of ‘In Memory’ title card for Caleb yet? Feels low for TLC to air episodes acting like a dead man is still alive to monetize a dramatic death reveal later down the season.

TLC fans had different opinions about the reasons for it.

  • .I assumed they would on the episode they reveal his death. They don’t want it to be a “spoiler” for those that don’t know, which is even gross to say but it’s probably true.
  • The whole network is all about exploitation. That’s how they make their money. They’re going to find a way to do it in the most exploitative way.
  • I think that’s because they stopped filming too long before he died for them to cobble together a “very special episode” that included the death. The same production company had no qualms about including a death on 90 Day as long as they were around for filming.
  • What you are asking is illogical and naive. It would make zero sense to spoil what hasn’t occurred in the narrative of the show footage yet. They will surely be plenty reverent when the actual death occurs on the show.
  • Gotta cash in on that death reveal for a lot of the audience that doesn’t know. Controversy = Cash.

What are your thoughts on why TLC has not yet posted some sort of “in memory” card for scenes showing Caleb Willingham in Season 5? So you think they might do that later? Or, are they looking for a bit of a shock factor? Sound off in the comments below and come back here for all your TLC news. 1000-Lb Sisters currently airs on Tuesday nights at 9/8c.
