What Is Hallmark’s Paging Mr. Darcy About?

Hallmark is taking a big swing with a month of Jane Austen-inspired Loveuary movies. The first is Paging Mr. Darcy. What is this new movie all about? According to the synopsis, Professor Eloise Cavendish has a perplexing task in front of her. Basically, Eloise is giving a keynote speech at a Jane Austen conference. Specifically, this conference is attended by fans, as well as for scholarship money.

Eloise has some reservations about speaking. Moreover, her speech focuses on “how money–not love–is the most important thing in Austen’s work.” Also, the professor is not so convinced that the attendees will care about her speech. Instead, she believes they only care about the Austen dress-up ball.

However, things change when she meets Sam. Every year, Sam dresses up in full Mr. Darcy gear, from breeches to frock coats. Consequently, Eloise thinks Sam does this Jane Austen cosplay to attract women. Understandably, Eloise is repulsed by that notion. Mistakenly, she believes Sam is a cad. Instead of seeing him for what he is, Eloise has been mistaken in her first impression.

“Sam and Eloise must get past their prejudices, overcome their pride, and admit they’re both drawn to Austen’s work for the same reason: an absolute belief in love.”
