The Night Agent was a huge Netflix hit. During the first half of the year, it was the number one watched series on the streamer. Despite being immediately renewed by Netflix for Season 2, the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes prevented production from starting. Showrunner Shawn Ryan had to wait to start working on the new season until after the strikes were resolved.

Now, there is an update on the next season of the Gabriel Basso-led series.

What Is The Status Of The Night Agent Season 2?

Over nine months after fans binged and fell in love with The Night Agent, Netflix is now starting production on Season 2. According to the Instagram page, “The Night Agent: Season 2 filming has commenced.”

What we know is that there will be 10 episodes in Season 2. However, there were no additional details about the upcoming season such as how long filming will last, when fans should expect the premiere, and who is returning for the upcoming season besides the two main leads.

One thing for sure is that Gabriel Basso is back as Peter Sutherland Jr in this FBI thriller series. In addition, Luciane Buchanan is also back as Rose Larkin.

Shawn Ryan Hints At Changes For Season 2

The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan always had a plan for additional seasons of the series. Ryan, who is behind such hit shows as The Shield, and S.W.A.T., knew he needed a plan because there is only one Matthew Quirk novel. Moreover, they used that book for the first season.

Shawn Ryan’s intention for this series is that each season will be a self-contained story.

Speaking to Comic Book, he revealed that he is moving the story out of Washington D.C., and to “a different part of the world.” This means a new cast of characters. Also, this means a brand new story.

Will they be exploring what happened to Peter’s father? Or will the agent uncover something else that takes him away from that investigation?

Right now, this is all a mystery. But, it sounds like there has been a lot of thought put into Season 2. Most of all, with the success of Season 1, there are high expectations.

While Ryan admits they “feel the pressure,” he promises something spectacular. “And so we’re just going to do our best to tell a story that feels within The Night Agent universe, but that feels new, fresh, and exciting.”
