‘Welcome To Plathville’ Fans Accuse TLC Of Kim Plath Cover-Up

Kim Plath, Welcome To Plathville

Seemingly, fans are always curious if Welcome To Plathville is real or fake. Now fans are questioning the “reality” of how the show is portraying the Plaths. Additionally, fans have run across a compelling argument that the TLC producers may be helping Kim Plath and the Plath family cover up incidents that they don’t want to be seen by viewers.

Reddit Users Question TLC’s Cover-Up For Kim Plath

On Reddit, a user posted a thread discussing whether TLC is actively hiding information to benefit Kim Plath and the family instead of being open about things that occur. Criticizing the omission of details in Welcome To Plathville Season 5, a heading reads, “Kim’s DUI accident happened in June, same month as divorce announced.” After pointing out the timeline they add, “What else don’t they show us? I watched weeks of lame explanations for the breakup this season, and this happened before filming. This suggests Kim is the key producer deciding what gets aired.” Following is a link to an article about her DUI arrest.

Others Users Give Their Thoughts

After the initial introduction of the idea, many users had comments on TLC covering up and omitting information to benefit Kim Plath and her family. But one in particular supports the idea that TLC is manipulating the information:

  • “I saw that Olivia said in that recent ~ hour-long interview, when asked about why this wasn’t discussed on S5, that essentially they can’t show what doesn’t happen / what people don’t talk about – basically saying that the whole Plath clan was united in not bringing it up on camera and acknowledging that she didn’t feel it was necessary for her to bring it up, either. This is where I feel like the TLC reality show environment allows this kind of key stuff to go missing, whereas a more Bravo-esque reality TV environment would force the info out on camera even if it was just showing every cast members’ silent, awkward, shifty responses when their producers asks them about it. TLC just allows so much to slip through their grubby fingers.”

Fans Wish Kim Plath Would Have Been Honest

Additionally, many fans on Reddit think the Welcome To Plathville producers could have acknowledged Kim Plath’s issue. Arguing they could show how the rest of the family reacted to the incident. Instead of everyone agreeing to ignore the issue. Fans wonder what else doesn’t make it during filming.

  • Additionally, someone says, “Agreed. Literally the show should have shown the DUI information and given a text screen.” The user adds, “And then shown every family member refuse to answer questions about it. I think that would reveal a lot about the way the family handles these kinds of things and would have been compelling to watch them not just not talk about it. Then adding, “But refuse to talk about it. It’s relevant information and the fact that the family doesn’t speak about it lends itself toward this idea that they avoid addressing conflict in any situation.”
  • “Completely ridiculous they didn’t show it. Kim is a master manipulator.”

What do you think about Welcome To Plathville producers agreeing to leave out details about Kim Plath’s DUI? Do you think fans should be privy to everything in a TLC family’s life? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
