Oprah Winfrey Snubs ‘The View’ During ‘Color Purple’ Promotion?

Oprah Winfrey has been out promoting the new adaptation of The Color Purple. However, she never appeared on The View, despite hitting up a few competitor shows. This seemed strange since her The Color Purple co-star Whoopi Goldberg. As many know, Goldberg is the moderator on The View. It also sounds like the daytime talk show is not happy about the snubbing.

Here is what we know about Oprah skipping out during her The Color Purple promotional tour.

Oprah Winfrey snubs The View

The View is the number one talk show on daytime television. However, that wasn’t enough to bring Oprah Winfrey out while she was out promoting the new adaptation of The Color Purple. While Oprah appeared on Gayle King’s CBS Mornings, The Drew Barrymore Show, and Sherri, Oprah never stopped by to talk to the ladies.

This seems even more surprising since Whoopi Goldberg is part of The View hosting table. The Color Purple is based on the seminal Alice Walker novel about two sisters (Celie and Nettie) born into a poor African-American family who face abuse and racism throughout their lives. Published in 1983, the novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making Walker the first Black woman to win this prize.

In 1985, Steven Spielberg directed an adaptation of The Color Purple with Goldberg playing Celie and Winfrey playing Celie’s friend Sofia. This was Winfrey’s movie debut. The novel also became a musical in 2005 and now a second movie, this one directed by Blitz Bazawule. It is coming out on Christmas Day. Winfrey is producing the new movie and Whoopi appeared in the new film as well.

Whoopi Goldberg still honors The Color Purple on The View

Even if Oprah Winfrey snubbed The View while promoting The Color Purple, Whoopi Goldberg still took the time to pay tribute to the movie. The film did send stars Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, and Danielle Brooks along with director Blitz Bazawule to talk about the movie.

While the producers of The View are reportedly mad that Winfrey snubbed the show, the episode was taped back on November 27. Unfortunately, Oprah wasn’t available on that day. The actual episode aired on December 13. However, the segment went great as Whoopi seemed very emotional and had a great moment with the cast. The former The Color Purple star interacted with the new generation cast. “It was a very emotional day for Whoopi. It was a wonderful moment,” a source from The View said (via Page Six).

What are your thoughts on Oprah Winfrey not showing up on The View to promote The Color Purple with Whoopi Goldberg? Was it a snub or just bad timing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
