‘Dukes Of Hazzard’ Star Under Investigation After Biden Comment
A Secret Service probe has been opened up against Dukes Of Hazzard star John Schneider after he called for Biden to be “publicly hung.” The 63-year-old actor took to X to express his concerns with President Biden’s leadership. This came just hours after Schneider appeared in the Season 10 finale of The Masked Singer.
On December 20, Biden’s official X account made a post criticizing former President Donald Trump. In his post, Biden addressed Trump’s viewpoint on the rights of Americans. “Trump poses many threats to our country: The right to choose, civil rights, voting rights, and America’s standing in the world,” Biden wrote. “But the greatest threat he poses is to our democracy. If we lose that, we lose everything.”
In a now-deleted comment on Biden’s original post, Schneider didn’t hold back. “Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung. Your son, too,” Schneider wrote. “Your response is..? Sincerely, John Schneider.”
Dukes Of Hazzard Star Reverses On Comment
According to Deadline, Schneider denies that his comment incites violence. “Seriously, folks?” said Schneider regarding his comment to Biden. “This is my final comment on this. I neither said nor implied any such thing. Despite headlines claiming otherwise, in my post, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past. I suggest you re-read my actual post and pay attention to the words before believing this nonsense.”
The Dukes Of Hazzard Star says that his words are protected under his right to free speech. “It’s my position, which I am entitled to have, that some of our nation’s leaders in Washington have lost their way, and corruption runs rampant, both on our nation’s borders and abroad,” Schneider said. “Transparency and accountability must happen in order for our constitutional republic to survive. There is no threat implied or otherwise in that statement.”
Following the controversy, a Secret Service spokesperson made a statement regarding the matter. “The Secret Service is aware of the comments made by Mr. Schneider, and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence,” the spokesperson said. “We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”
John Schneider’s Appearance On The Masked Singer
Just hours before Schneider made his comment under Biden’s post, he finished in second place on The Masked Singer. While speaking to People, he noted his time on the singing competition was a chance to honor his late wife, Alicia Alain, who died from breast cancer at age 53 in February.
According to Schneider, his appearance was larger than himself. “What an amazing opportunity to be able to honor Alicia, to be able to honor people who are grieving, maybe educate people who are grieving a little bit, in front of millions of people,” he said. In a somewhat prophetic statement, Schneider admitted that his emotions often get the better of him. “I’m a pretty strong guy but I’m also a very emotional guy.”
In a December 20 interview with The Wrap, Schneider credited The Masked Singer with helping him through such a tough time. “[She] would’ve loved to have been here watching me on The Masked Singer,” he told The Wrap. “This was a great healing opportunity for me to be able to not have the wheels come off. You know, I could do it publicly, and that helped hold me together. It was very important.”
