More often than not, engagements in the Bachelor Nation franchise go on for a few years before the couple announces their breakup. But Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist aren’t taking any chances.

Gerry Turner didn’t sign up as the Golden Bachelor to find the first love of his life. He already shared that with his first wife, Toni. She sadly passed away in 2017.

He joined the show to find a companion to live out his golden years with. He found that with Theresa Nist, who also lost her spouse after decades of marriage.

Of course, the 72-year-old retiree had to break a few hearts before finding love with Nist. However, they’re living their best life together ahead of their wedding.

Why Gerry Turner Agreed To A TV Wedding

Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were in NYC earlier this week to attend a special screening of Golden Bachelor, followed by a Q&A panel.

During the discussion, Turner revealed that he didn’t initially want a TV wedding. “We had to think about it and it really wasn’t the original plan to do that,” Theresa Nist confirmed about the televised wedding (via Variety.)

What made them change their minds?

To put it simply, Bachelor Nation fans.

“We don’t feel like we want to just drop all these people who are so affected by the show,” Nist explained about the change of heart.

Did the producers pressure them? While Nist and Turner didn’t address that, Golden Bachelor executive producers and showrunners Claire Freeland and Jason Ehrlich were also on the panel.

Ehrlich said producers “hit the ground running” with the idea of a televised wedding right after the engagement happened.

In addition to celebrating Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the wedding will be a “celebration [of] the franchise.”

Save the date! The Golden Wedding airs live on ABC on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
