After years of being out of contact with most of his children, Jon Gosselin is optimistic that he’ll talk to them again soon.

While speaking to In Touch Weekly in August, Gosselin revealed how it’s been since he talked to any of his children. “I haven’t talked to Mady and Cara for, oh I don’t even know, over a decade,” Gosselin said. “And then I haven’t talked to Joel, Aaden, Leah and Alexis for five years,”

For Goselin, even as the kids have gotten older, communication has proven to be impossible. “At this point, they’re adults now. So, I mean, I don’t even know their phone numbers or stuff,” he told In Touch Weekly. “Hannah [Gosselin] went down there and talked to them. I’ve kind of just stuck with the kids that live here. I’ve tried to reach out to them, and it has failed numerous times.”

Jon Gosselin Speaking To His Kids Seems ‘More Real’

Despite the years of no contact, Gosselin is becoming increasingly hopeful that things are about to change. A source familiar with the situation told The U.S. Sun that, “Jon sees them in the future communicating with him. It seems more real all the time. The chances are better now than they were before,” the source revealed.

Now that Mady and Cara are 22 years old and the sextuplets Hannah, Collin, Aaden, Alexis, Joel, and Leah are 19, the source believes that they will want to reach out to Gosselin very soon. “There is alleviated pressure. Now that they’re in their adulthood, they are expressing themselves as individuals more now than they could or would have been before.”

“Jon has reached out to his kids on many holidays and birthdays,” the source said. “But while the kids are still living at home with Kate he has never heard back from them. He has high hopes that as soon as they are all out of the house and Kate [Gosselin] can no longer push her agenda, he can begin to rebuild a relationship. He realizes it will take time, but he will do everything to make up for lost years together.”

When The Family Trouble Started

After being featured on Surviving Sextuplets and Twins and One Year Later, the Gosselins slowly built up public interest in their growing family. It wasn’t until Discovery green-lit Jon & Kate Plus 8 in 2007 that they became reality TV stars seemingly overnight. Even after the show moved over to TLC, the drama surrounding the Gosselins remained must-watch TV. But just two years later, Jon and Kate Gosselin divorced after 10 years of marriage.

In a 2016 interview with People, Kate Gosselin revealed that her husband’s change in behavior was a big factor in the divorce. “I really would have thought [Jon would] have been here for the long haul,” she said. “The weirdest thing is that overnight he became a different person.”

After becoming reality TV stars, Kate says she noticed Jon behaving differently. “Jon had begun buying motorcycles and cars and staying out late instead of taking care of the kids, Kate said. “People closest to me thought I was crazy and making it up. When they saw it for themselves, they were like, ‘Whoa.’ They saw the proof.”

While appearing on The Steve Harvey Show in 2016, Gosselin attempted to tell his side of the story. “We knew we were going to get divorced, and then the network tried to keep us together for the benefit of the show, so I quit,” he explained. “I said, ‘I’m not having my divorce filmed. I’m not having it aired out for the public’s consumption. And I’m not having reruns so my children can keep on watching the demise of their parent. I just took a moral stance versus a business stance. I lost everything, I lost all my money.”
