No youngster, it’s tough surviving in the harsh environment of Alaska. She is not completely confined to Life Below Zero, as she also featured in other Alaskan shows. Life Below Zero Research Helps Understanding

Essentially, the reality TV show is about subsistence hunters living in a remote area. As Sue said many times, out there, she’s not at the “top of the food chain.” Instead, she’s actually in the food chain. So, she has to be aware because plenty of “predators” see her as their next energy snack. And, it’s her constant awareness of potential danger that annoys newcomers to the show.

On Reddit this week, an OP complained about Sue Aikens in Life Below Zero.

…Sue Aikens. She is so annoyingly overdramatic. Look, I have no reservations about admitting that these people live a dangerous life. I get it. The main culprit is the weather hands down. But Sue’s constant drama over being killed is so patheticly overdramatic that I have been fast forwarding all of her segments. I mean seriously, Sue? I’m only 5 episodes into Season One and I’m already over her. I swear….”Every time I step out of my house I can die. They stole my fuel…I could die in a month if it isn’t delivered. There is a Predator circling my property. It could kill me at any moment.” Seriously? Shut up.

Loyal Fans Stand For Sue Aikens

Of course, National Geographic Channel fans stepped up in defense. One of them explained that “Research is your friend,” when it comes to the reality TV star.  Others spoke about her hard life and claimed they grew to love her.

  • Sue survived a brutal Bear attack six years ago and had to wait 10 days for help. I’d be a little wary after that and I’m impressed that she actually went back.
  •  Initially she wasn’t my favorite but about 4 seasons in she was easily my second favorite on the show.
  • She’s unique and passionate. Variety of life. Better than watching a suburbanite complaining about Starbucks on whatever other shows there are.

What are your thoughts on Sue Aikens? Did you grow to like her as the season passed by? Would you also feel very aware of the danger if you’d been mauled almost to death by a bear? Share your thoughts in the comments. And, keep coming back for more reality TV news.
