In general, people tend to wonder if Welcome To Plathville is a scripted or unscripted show. Seemingly, the topic pops up frequently for the unique Plath family. With the conclusion of Season 5 earlier this week, Olivia Plath generously fielded fans’ questions, including whether the TLC show is real or fake.

Welcome To Plathville Finale

On December 5, Welcome To Plathville aired their Season 5 finale. This TLC show follows the lives of Kim, Barry, Ethan, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy Plath. Additionally, the Plath family also has an older daughter Hosanna who chooses not to be on screen. Likewise, the show includes many others including Ethan Plath’s now estranged wife, Olivia Plath.

Olivia Plath Was A Primary Outside Influence

Notably, the premise of the show follows the Plath family with their off-beat way of life. Initially, the family gained traction by showing how in this modern world a family could still live without many creature comforts. Meanwhile, they portray the family limiting many things that seem commonplace to most people. In 2019 during the debut, the Plath kids were said to “have never had a soda, don’t know who Spider-Man or Tom Brady is and have never watched TV.” But as the show unfolds, many outside influences begin to change the family dynamics, including Ethan’s wife Olivia Plath. Furthermore, many fans have wondered with their strict rules why they participated in the first place. Saying, “If they are so against their children using technology then why the heck are they on this show?”

Unraveling Of The Family

Since the first season, Moriah, Micah, Hosanna, Ethan, and his estranged wife, Olivia Plath, have all built lives outside of the Plath family home. Mainly, they have chosen to reject the Plath household’s strict rules. Sadly, after 24 years of marriage, Mom and Dad Plath announced their plans to end their marriage in June. Saying, “After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage.” Additionally, Ethan and Olivia also have chosen to go their separate ways as well.

Fans Suspect The Show Is Following A Script

Over time, observant fans saw a few things leading to suspicions Welcome To Plathville may be following a script.

  • One Reddit user discusses season 4 episode 6, “Moriah crying in her bedroom with dark roots acting all surprised by her ex and then crying in the kitchen with her brother with a full bleach and tone makes me wonder the time frame between those two shots.”
  • Another points out, “And her nails – in the bedroom she had long, fake nails w/ black polish but in the kitchen her nails were short w/ chipped polish. Her nails also changed in the solo interview bits – from long and black, to short and polish-free, and back again.”
  • Additionally, someone else noticed an interaction between Ethan and Oliva Plath, “Her nails changed a few times during talking with Ethan and Olivia about Max.”

  • “At this point I’m starting to question a LOT.” Continuing, “Someone on this sub [Reddit] mentioned the continuity issues with the river trip and Ethan’s nose. I went back and rewatched that part of the show and sure enough before they left the house and on the drive to the river, Ethan’s nose was scraped. Yet at the river, Ethan’s nose wasn’t scraped.”

But Olivia Plath shed some light on the subject by replying to fans on her Instagram stories.

Olivia Plath Gives Fans Answers

As the season came to a close, Oliva Plath fielded fans’ questions on her Instagram stories. One of the topics she addresses is whether it is real or fake.

One fan asks, “Do you/the Plaths have any input/veto power re storylines on the show?”

To which Olivia responds, “They can’t film what you don’t do.”

She also adds, “One common misconception for our show is that the producers are always scheming, plotting or forcing us into situations or having conversations.” Continuing, “That is absolutely not true. In my opinion, the producing team that we work with is not only incredibly kind and fair, but they also have a high level of integrity.”

Olivia also alludes that the inconsistencies are choices by the individuals, saying it’s “certain cast not being honest/realistic, not the producers.”
