‘Barbie’ Sequel Not Happening, Star Explains Why
It appears that a sequel to the Barbie movie is not happening as diehard fans had hoped. What happened and why are they halting any future plans to make more films? The film’s star, Margot Robbie spoke out on everything. Read on for more details.
Barbie Sequel Not Happening, Star Explains Why
It became a phenomenon no one saw coming when Barbie took over the world. The film became a movement for women who wanted to be seen and heard as not just playthings. America Ferrera gave an impassioned monologue about what it meant to be a woman. More so, she taped into all of the stereotypes and what women go through daily to live up to perfect standards. Without warning, the Greta Gerwig film raked in over a billion dollars at the box office. More so, merchandise for the film flew off of the shelves and Ryan Gosling was praised for his portrayal of Ken.
Even the music from the film garnered a handful of GRAMMY nominations and a bevy of film-inspired dolls that are going for a lot of money. That being said, it would be expected that there would be a sequel to the film. However, that is apparently not the case and it will break a lot of hearts. According to TMZ, Margot Robbie shared that the franchise is essentially done for now. Sadly, she has a good reason. Essentially, Robbie, who played the iconic role of Barbie as well as produced the film, says there’s not much else for them to do.
The story has been told, as far as they are concerned. “I think we put everything we had into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next,” Robbie shared. It is a bittersweet moment to not have a sequel. However, it was noted that it is really appreciated that Greta did not piggyback on the success of the film and just made something quick.
Reunited
Ken and Barbie will be reunited very soon as Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will star in an Ocean’s Eleven spinoff. So, diehard fans can catch them in that if they are craving a reunion. Yet, as for them stepping into their iconic doll roles again, that seems to be tabled for now. Of course, fans are still singing the praises of the movie:
Barbie was the best movie I saw this year and one of the best movies of the century so far. A nigh-flawless specimen of post-modernity delivered in the form of an almost Tolkien-esque epic…both clever and astounding.

Barbie: Greta Gerwig, again doing magic by making a such movie, loved every concept and between the lines of it. The only thing felt unnecessary was some self-explanatory monologues. The moment Ken realizes Men rule the world 😂❤ pic.twitter.com/JE5etnzkzS
