Matt James & Rachael Kirkconnell’s Surprise Bachelor Success Story
Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell are among the few Bachelor Nation stars still together. They first met in 2020 during filming for Season 25 of The Bachelor. The milestone season aired in early 2021, and Kirkconnell was a frontrunner from the beginning.
However, off-screen drama almost ended her relationship with Matt James before it really got started. While the season was airing, photos were posted online of Rachael Kirkconnell attending a Southern plantation party. Many people online called for James to eliminate her from the show, but filming had already concluded months prior.
At the end of the season, he gave Rachael Kirkconnell his final rose with the intention of pursuing a relationship with her. However, public backlash caused friction for the couple, and they briefly broke up. However, their split didn’t last long, and they have been together ever since.
Huge Investment In Their Future
Rachael Kirkconnell is in her late 20s, which is typically the time women start feeling pressure to get married. But Matt James and Kirkconnell are purposely moving slowly in their relationship.
They recently took a huge step forward by investing in their future together. The Bachelor couple bought a house together in Florida, near where Tyler Cameron lives. Cameron and James have been best friends since their college days at Wake Forest University in South Carolina.
Despite their recent move toward settling down, Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell continue to travel together. They attended the F1 Grand Prix Race in Vegas and chatted with PEOPLE magazine about their future.
When asked how their relationship survives when many couples split up after filming, the former Bachelor had a simple answer: “I think we do a good job of just focusing on ourselves.”
Kirkconnell elaborated a bit, saying, “I don’t think we’re going by a rulebook or a playbook like some couples coming off the show.”

Kirkconnell admitted to PEOPLE that the couple “talk kids more than ever,” but they aren’t quite ready yet.
“We have a few steps until then,” she added.
