Michael Strahan Looks Sad After Returning To ‘GMA’
Michael Strahan was absent from Good Morning America for almost three weeks while he dealt with a personal family matter. The former NFL player returned to the show on Wednesday, but his typically cheerful demeanor was noticeably missing.
Why Was Michael Strahan Missing from Good Morning America?
Strahan has kept quiet about the reason for his absence. All he has disclosed thus far is that it was a personal family matter. He was initially expected to return to work the following week but was ultimately missing from his post for almost three weeks.
He was also missing from Fox NFL Sunday for nearly the same length of time but returned to his co-hosting position alongside Curt Menefee on Sunday.

Michael Strahan has grown children. He shares his oldest two, Tanita, age 31, and Michael Jr., age 28, with Wanda Hutchins, who was his first wife. He also has twin girls, Isabella and Sophia, ages 19, whom he shares with his second wife, Jean Muggli.
Coworkers felt Strahan’s Absence
Michael isn’t just a fan favorite; he’s also a cherished coworker for fellow co-hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Ginger Zee. On his first day back in the studio following his mysterious leave of absence, Robin announced her happiness to see him back by saying, “Can I just say we have tears of joy because Michael is back here?”
Michael said he was happy to be back, too, and jumped right back into his hosting duties. On Wednesday’s episode, he interviewed Chris Pine about the upcoming Disney film Wish. He also spoke with Rachel Zegler and Viola Davis about the highly anticipated prequel to the Hunger Games series, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Juju Chang from Nightline and Linsey Davis from World News Tonight filled in for Strahan during his time away.
Michael Has Been A Staple Of Good Morning America For Nearly A Decade
It’s no surprise that everyone was happy to see the former NFL player rejoin his GMA co-hosts. After all, he became a contributor to the show in 2014 before joining the cast full-time in 2016, following his departure from Live! With Kelly Ripa.
Strahan’s fans from his other gig, co-hosting Fox NLF Sunday, were equally happy to see him back. Michael joined the pre-game show in 2008 as a football analyst and helped the series acquire three Sports Emmy Award Nominations. Those nominations include Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst for NFL on FOX, Outstanding Studio Show – Weekly for Fox NFL Sunday, and Outstanding Studio Show – Weekly for Fox NFL Thursday.
