Lick Lizard Towing - YouTube

Lizard Lick Towing was the name of a truTV spin-off of All Worked Up. This reality TV series ran for four seasons from February 7, 2011 to August 18, 2014. Anytime truTV fans catch re-runs of the series on television, they always have a few simple questions:

  • Is Lizard Lick Towing a real company?
  • Where are the cast members now?
  • Is the towing company still in business?

Keep reading as TV Shows Ace digs into where Lizard Lick Towing is now and if the company is still in business.

First Of All, Is This A Real Company?

Lizard Lick Towing is the name of a real repo company based in Lizard Lick, NC (located just outside of Raleigh). According to Total Music Awards, the network doesn’t actually list the series as “reality TV.” The network prefers to refer to it as “actuality.”

“Our focus is on series that feature real-life situations. That is why we’re using the theme ‘Not Reality. Actuality.’ for the network. The goal is to let people know that truTV programming is different from typical reality shows, which often involve contests or other highly staged events.”

Unfortunately, this means that while Lizard Lick Towing was about a real company, it was exaggerated and scripted reenactments of repossessions.

While most episodes of the show were loosely based on real people and things that actually happened, they were scripted and exaggerated to make for more interesting television. Sadly, some argue this was one of the downfalls of the show.

Is Lizard Lick Towing Still In Business?

Confirmed by Distractify, the repossession company is still in business.

Their website reads of their ongoing business: “Each day brings a new challenge to the table; each defaulted customer seems to provide a new challenge; and each satisfied account that we service seems to put a glowing stamp on the end of the day.”

Ronnie and Amy Shirley stepped out of the spotlight when the truTV series ended and focused on their business. That, however, changed when tragedy struck the Lizard Lick Towing family last year.

Lizard Lick Towing Family Mourns Tragic Loss

On February 17, 2022, the Lizard Lick Towing family suffered a great tragedy. Ronnie’s son Harley Alexander Shirley was murdered at the age of 21.

A woman named Sophie Hagy, who was a year younger than Harley, was also shot during the incident. While she survived the shooting, she was left paralyzed by it.

“[Harley is] at peace now — waiting on the rest of us to arrive at those gates — we will be there soon Big Shur — and will always cherish the times we had while you were with us, son.” Ronnie penned on social media a day after his son passed away.

Despite his TV series ending and his son passing away in a tragic and unexpected way, Ronnie continues to operate Lizard Lick Towing.
