Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves offered up some interesting insight into what fans could expect in a possible winter season.

Thanks to prolonged Hollywood strikes that have made headlines throughout 2023, reality TV fans have been feasting. With a majority of scripted productions experiencing extended shutdowns, shows like Big Brother have seen a shift in demand. According to Julie Chen Moonves, fans of the long-running reality show could be in for a treat in the upcoming months.

Recently, Chen Moonves sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the show’s future. With an increased focus on celebrity editions of popular reality TV shows, Big Brother could be heading down that road. But Chen Moonves believes that the show may also head in another direction for a possible winter season. A direction that fans have been clamoring for since the idea was first introduced.

A Big Brother  Winter Season With Some Familiar Faces

With Big Brother 25’s season finale fast approaching, fans have already had their eye on the future. Big Brother 26 will likely debut sometime between July and September 2024. For most dedicated viewers, that might as well be a lifetime from now. But there is hope. In a November interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chen Moonves describes Big Brother as being in the driver’s seat when it comes to upcoming content.

When asked about a possible winter season of Celebrity Big Brother, Chen Moonves admitted that there is a possibility. “I have been poking around with the producers asking the same question,” Cheen Moonves told Entertainment Weekly. “I think the SAG strike could position Big Brother to be in demand, but they have not made the call yet.” Chen Moonves was quick to point out that any celebrity that would appear on a winter season would not cross the picket lines. “Now we can book the celebrities. This is something that they can participate in, like with Dancing With the Stars. They’re available now and people want to work.”

To avoid any further confusion, Chen Moonves wanted to be clear about what’s allowed from SAG-AFTRA members. “Our members appearing on Dancing With the Stars are working under the Network Code agreement, which is a non-struck contract. They are required to go to work, are not in violation of SAG-AFTRA strike rules. And we support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations. The program is a SAG-AFTRA non-dramatic production under a separate agreement that is not subject to the union’s strike order.”

Turning To Some Big Brother  ‘Legends’

Despite all the talk about Celebrity Big Brother, Chen Moonves has her eyes on another big prize. “I don’t think a celebrity run will happen,” Chen Moonves said. “But maybe we will have a month’s worth that is special in its own way. Maybe you bring back Legends, for those are the real Big Brother celebrities.”

“They could play a fast, one-month version,” the Big Brother host said. “Or maybe we get three months worth starting in January or February. Even if the strike ended right now, nothing’s going to go into production until January, so maybe you do need a month’s worth of Big Brother just to fill.”

Chen Moonves joins Big Brother 13 winner Rachel Reilly as the second person to float the idea of a legends season. In July of 2022, Reilly told Entertainment Weekly that fans would be thrilled to see some of the show’s most famous faces. “I think the Big Brother fan base would love to see Rachel, Janelle, Danielle Reyes, and Vanessa play together,” she said. ” This would be my DREAM COME TRUE! Maybe we can save that for a ‘best of’ season in the Celebrity Big Brother spot. I think we could all make it happen during a three-week season. Hint, hint, CBS.”
