‘Welcome To Plathville’ What Is Ethan Plath’s Job?
Fans of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville recognize that Ethan Plath’s name is constantly associated with his love for cars. In fact, many fans pointed out that Ethan may be able to enjoy his interest in cars a bit more now that he is separating from Olivia. Furthermore, some fans hope he can find a new significant other who can support his interest in cars.
In a recent thread on Reddit, however, one fan questions if his interest in cars is just a hobby or if it is linked to his profession. What exactly does Ethan Plath do for a living? Does his job have anything to do with the cars he loves so much?
Keep reading for the details.
Welcome To Plathville: What Is Ethan Plath’s Job?
Exactly a year ago, TV Shows Ace reported Ethan and Olivia Plath had an estimated combined net worth of $500,000. So, if the couple splits their assets right down the middle… Ethan Plath would now have an estimated net worth of $250,000. While an even split down the middle isn’t typically how divorce plays out, it does give fans a rough idea of how much he is worth right now.
The question remains, however, what does he do for a living? How did he earn that $250K?
As fans know, some of his income comes from his appearances on TLC’s Welcome to Plathville. Fans can only assume Ethan Plath gets some sort of paycheck from the network for every episode he appears in. Sadly, however, reality TV stars don’t make as much as people like to think. Moreover, TLC is well-known for being fairly cheap in terms of what they pay their cast members.

What Does He Do With Cars?
In a thread on Reddit, one Welcome to Plathville fan admitted they were not very sure exactly what Ethan Plath does with cars. They asked if he was a collector, if he was a mechanic, or if he restored and flipped them. The fan also thanked anyone for chiming in with answers.
In response, one Welcome to Plathville fan admitted people can make really good money restoring classic vehicles. Another, however, added that Ethan restores cars to keep and collect them. So, he isn’t making any money from that hobby.

Turns out, Ethan Plath has been making money as a mechanic since he was just a teenager.
He’s been working on cars in one form or another since he was 13. He’s done work for other people as well. In Season 1 (I just rewatched the season recently), Kim was explaining that they gave their children a home to live in, clothes on their backs and food in their bellies & anything above & beyond that they had to buy with their own money.
The fan added: “He also worked in some sort of IT capacity the year they lived in Cairo, I think it was actually servicing copiers & other office things.”

Turns out, Ethan Plath was also VERY good at saving his money while he worked as a mechanic earlier in life. So, he also had fairly comfortable savings to lean on.
At the end of the day, fans assume that Ethan Plath could sell one of his cars if he was pressed for cash. They, however, can’t imagine he would ever want to do that.
