‘Below Deck Med’ Luka Brunton Breaks Captain Sandy’s Wrist

It was revealed on Episode 6 of Below Deck Med which aired on October 30, 2023, that crew member Luka Bruton Breaks Captain Sandy’s Wrist. The incident was an accident but will likely have a large impact on the remainder of Season 8 of Below Deck Med.

What Happened

In the clip showing what happened Captain Sandy is seen helping Luka Bruton wrangle a paddle board when she slips backwards and falls. In his confessional Luka states “I’m f—king s—tting myself. I f—king broke Captain Sandy’s wrist.” Sandy is then seen leaving motor Yacht Mustique by tender, likely to seek medical attention.

Captain Sandy’s injury questions the remainder of the season. Previously Captain Sandy has filled in for Captain Lee who had a back injury. Captain Lee said of his injury, “My injury, it’s getting worse. On the left side of my body, I don’t feel anything. I expected a lot more progress than I’m experiencing, and the most frustrating part about it is, I can’t do a god goddamn thing about it, and it’s hard.” Will Sandy need a replacement captain for the remainder of the charter season? Or will she be able to work through the injury?

Captain Lee Calls into Question Sandy’s Leadership

Captain Lee called into question Captain Sandy’s leadership when she decided to fire Camille Lamb without his permission. Sandy responded to the allegations by saying “I just can’t believe there was a thing about it. The reality is when you’re on a boat and someone’s sick in the hospital, as a captain you’re not gonna call them up and say, ‘Can I fire someone?’ You don’t need permission. You’re actually in command.”

This wouldn’t be the last time that Captain Lee calls into question Captain Sandy’s leadership. During Season 8 Bosun Ruan Irving submitted false documentation at the beginning of the charter season. He had a fake yacht master’s certificate. Captain Lee Said of the incident that it was “Embarrassing” and that Captain Sandy should have caught the documents sooner.

More Trouble On Mustique

Natalya Scudder expresses concern about staying on the motor yacht Mustique. “I just don’t think mentally I’m doing well on the boat.” This is following a feud between Tumi Mhlongo and Natalya. The two have been at each other’s throats since Tumi took over as chief stew from Natalya. In addition, the interior crew is having more issues. Kyle Viljoen is caught calling out crew member Jessika Asai for talking behind his back. It sounds like Captain Sandy has her hands full. And now she is down one!

Will Sandy be able to overcome all of the obstacles she is facing in Season 8, now with a broken wrist?
