‘Shark Tank’: Where To Buy Buena Papa

Buena Papa fries on Shark Tank

New restaurants are a tough sell since there are so many options already out there. Buena Papa is a restaurant appearing on Shark Tank this week that has a niche they are filling in this crowded business model. They sell gourmet fries and they want a shark to take a bite on their ideas.

Here is a look at Buena Papa from Shark Tank and where to buy the company’s products.

What is Buena Papa on Shark Tank?

James and Johanna Windon came up with the idea for the Buena Papa restaurant after they sheltered in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple were already entrepreneurs and owned a cleaning service called Maid in Raleigh. That business ended up shut down during COVID and they experimented with cooking to whittle time away during that period of their lives.

Johanna moved to the United States from Colombia when she was six, but she had roots in Colombian food as a result. There was one dinner she loved, called Bandeja Paisa, but they had no rice. James suggested they replace rice with French fries and Buena Papa sprung to life. From that point, the two began making gourmet French fries dishes and eventually opened their first restaurant in North Carolina.

As they head onto Shark Tank, they have already seen great success. Buena Papa earned the name of the “official loaded fries” of the NHL hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes. James and Johanna also say their restaurants are more than just a place to get food. They seek to create a community hub wherever they are that serves fries with a flavor from different cultures.
