Actress-turned-talk show host Drew Barrymore is now surrounded by heavy security amid immense backlash. As some may recall, she had wanted to cross picket lines in order to start up her show again. For months, everything but reality television and soap operas had been put on hold because of the writer’s strike. Then there was also the SAG-AFTRA strike that added to what was already happening in the celebrity world. Soon enough, fall was coming around and talk shows were set to return. The Drew Barrymore Show seemed like it was coming back no matter what, even if there was a WGA strike. This was causing a lot of controversy because viewers felt that Barrymore should not cross the picket lines.
Yet, she stood by her decision to bring the show back despite what fans were saying. Eventually, Drew decided to change her premiere date and pushed it back. The writer’s strike ended though viewers still were hesitant to watch the show again.
As an actor, I haven’t worked in over 2 months. I will no longer watch Bill Maher or Drew Barrymore. Their decisions, although they reversed course, were disheartening. We have to stand together or any negotiation power we have at the table can be compromised.

Now, it seems that Drew Barrymore needs protection since her daytime talk show is back on the air, starting Monday, October 16th. According to The Sun, she is covered by security BTS. Yet, before this even happened, it was alleged that attendees had to follow strict rules to even come to taping. Per an insider: “The audience is told that they are not allowed to ask Drew for an autograph or a selfie or photograph. They also can’t eat or drink for the entire hour-long, sometimes two-hour taping. You can have water, that’s it.”
Rules To Abide By
Drew Barrymore is one of the most famous actresses, having starred in Ever After, Boys On the Side, Never Been Kissed, and more. However, audience members are not even allowed to have their phones out when it comes to entering the studio. Apparently, it is a really cutely decorated studio but they cannot even snap a photo. Finally: “The security at Drew’s show is very tight. All crew must wear a season four badge on them at all times to prove they work on the show.”
It is noted that she does do her best to make everyone feel as welcomed as possible but these rules seem quite uninviting. She is lucky her show has survived after a few of the head writers bailed on her. As to how the rest of the season will go is anybody’s guess.
