Derek Hough & Amy Purdy Reunite For One More Dance
Dancing With The Stars judge Derek Hough recently reunited with one of his most popular dancer partners!
Many DWTS fans remember Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy during her time on Season 18. She and Derek Hough competed together and finished in second place behind Maks Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis.
Although it’s been nearly 10 years since Derek and Amy danced together, fans felt delighted to see them reunite as if barely any time had passed.

Dancing With The Stars fans fell in love with Amy Purdy and her unique story. PEOPLE shares that she contracted bacterial meningitis at 19 years old, resulting in her leg amputation 10 inches below the knee. In spite of that, she went on to compete in the Paralympics as a snowboarder and danced with Derek Hough on DWTS.
Sadly, her health battles continued afterward.
“Twenty years ago when I lost my legs and lost my kidneys and almost lost my life, I never said ‘Why me?’ Two years ago — that was the first time,” Amy told PEOPLE.
In early 2019, she was touring the world and living her best life possible. Then suddenly, doctors found a huge blood clot from her hip down through her left leg. Amy felt like her world was crumbling around her and she wasn’t sure if she could walk again, let alone dance.
This week, Amy Purdy went to see her old friend Derek Hough perform on his Symphony of Dance tour. The pair began to dance together, almost as if no time at all had passed.
“After injuring my leg 4 years ago and enduring 10+ surgeries, I had no idea if I would ever walk comfortable again, let alone dance again and tonight not only did I walk into the theater but I danced again with my friend & DWTS partner @derekhough ❤️” the 43-year-old athlete captioned her Instagram post. “Life is such a journey or as Derek says ‘life is a symphony!’ Let this be a reminder that whatever you are going through, keep going!”
Amy’s fans react to the heartfelt dance
While dancing with Derek Hough, Amy didn’t need votes from fans or scores from the judges. She was just simply happy to dance with her old friend. Fans certainly took notice and praised her in the comments.
“Look at YOU!!!! like you didn’t miss a step 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 this makes me so happy!” one of Amy’s followers wrote in the comments.
“Forever one of my absolute FAVORITE DWTS partnerships 🥹🫶🏻🪩 you on Season 19 was truly inspiring and I still rewatch all your dances together. You two are magic!!! So glad this friendship has continued & you got to dance [with Derek] again 💕💃🏼” another wrote.
