Marc D’Amelio Reveals ‘DWTS’ Almost Caused Divorce
From the outside, a life of celebrity status seems enticing. Thanks to the glamour of Hollywood and the lavish lifestyle showcased by stars, fans tend to believe stardom comes with an endless supply of happiness. But for Heidi and Marc D’Amelio, their marriage almost ended when Heidi found herself on Dancing with the Stars in 2022. On the newest episode of The D’Amelio Show, the couple recalled their relationship crumbling with Marc admitting, “I wish I would have been more supportive throughout the process, because I know how important it was for you.”
During the filming of season 31 of Dancing with the Stars, Heidi became the first mother-daughter duo to compete thanks to Charli D’Amelio accepting a position on the show. Charli said, “I didn’t think they were being real, I thought it was a prank. But when they were like, ‘No, this is real,’ I was so excited for the both of us.”
Not Holding Back
Just because Charli and Heidi are related, the daughter remembered their mindset before appearing on the show, noting they never shared a competitive nature until dancing. Although happy for each other, Charli admitted to not holding back. Although together, Heidi and Charli ended their run in different places. Charli and her partner, Mark Ballas, dazzled on stage and won season 31 of Dancing with the Stars while Heidi and her partner placed eighth.
As for Marc D’Amelio, the silence he found at home without his wife and daughter took a toll on him. “It kind of hit me all at once — all of a sudden, I turned around … my life has turned upside down. My kids didn’t need me, my wife didn’t need me. I really felt lonely.” He added, “I think my first reason was [to] burn this s—t down. It went from zero to 100, like, I’m done. I’m done with this marriage.”
Marc D’Amelio Shares What Saved His Marriage
While not wanting their family issues to go public, the pair tried to keep it silent. Marc D’Amelio hoped to save his marriage and success. “There’s everything riding on us as a family. That puts a lot of pressure on us. This is all I have. Money comes and goes. Fame is gonna come and it’s gonna go. The only thing I have is family.”
Needing time away, Marc D’Amelio traveled to Connecticut for a few days, where he contemplated splitting up his family. Thanks to some reflection and distance, the star realized what mattered most. “I care about very few people the way I care about my family, and if I didn’t love them so much, I wouldn’t have been so invested and upset with all the situations.”
