TikToker Charli D’Amelio and DWTS pro Mark Ballas are the new reigning champions now that Season 31 is over. Over the past 10 weeks, they worked incredibly hard and couldn’t be happier to walk away with the Mirrorball Trophy.

From the start, many expected Charli and Mark to win. Her previous dance training and his prior choreography skills made them an unstoppable force. But as fans saw in Season 30, it’s not always the contestant with the most dance experience who wins. Charli and Mark were up against several strong contestants. They definitely put in the hard work and deserved to walk away with first place.

So how exactly do the new champions feel about their victory? Keep reading to find out more.

Charli D’Amelio can’t believe she’s the new reigning champ

During the DWTS Season 31 finale, the top four couples had to perform two routines. Mark and Charli easily earned perfect scores for both their redemption dance and their freestyle routine. Head judge Len Goodman added that he’d never seen a couple earn so many perfect scores in consecutive weeks.

It’s not hard to see why Charli and Mark won the competition, but they’re still surprised and excited that they won.

“Oh my gosh, it happened so fast!” 18-year-old Charli told the press, including PEOPLE, after winning the competition. “I couldn’t even really comprehend what was going on, and then they put me in the air. I was like, ‘What?'”

This wasn’t Mark Ballas’ first Mirrorball Trophy win, but he was just as happy and shocked as Charli.

“I think we’re both still a bit staggered,” Mark added. “It’s like she’s still shell-shocked.”

Mark Ballas took a five-year hiatus from the show before returning for Season 31. Like Charli, he admitted he just fell out of love with dance. However, it seems like they both rekindled their passion for dance over the past 10 weeks. They’re incredibly glad to have found each other.

“I’ve learned so much, whether it’s about all these new styles of dance or just myself as a person or learning how to perform anything,” Charli continued. “I’ve learned a whole lot about it all, and that’s thanks to Mark.”

Will Mark Ballas be back for another year?

It’s not immediately clear if Mark Ballas wants to come back for Dancing With The Stars Season 32. But if his mother joins the show, he might have another reason to come back.

Rumor has it that the exec team is eyeballing world-renowned choreographer Shirley Ballas to fill in Len Goodman’s spot. She’s currently the head judge on Britain’s Strictly Come Dancing, but it’s possible she could do both shows.

Stay tuned for the latest Dancing With The Stars news! There will be more to share in the upcoming weeks and months.
