TikTok star Charli D’Amelio is having the time of her life competing on Dancing With The Stars this year. The 18-year-old is partnering with Mark Ballas in hopes of bringing home the Mirrorball Trophy. For the past two weeks, she’s managed to stay at the top of the leader board and most viewers think she has a real shot at the championship.

However, this isn’t just a dance competition for Charli. It’s an opportunity for her to find herself again.

Charli D’Amelio fell out of love with dance over the years

Although the TikTok star has an expansive dance background, she hasn’t really enjoyed it in a while. PEOPLE had a chance to talk to Charli D’Amelio on their podcast about what DWTS means to her.

“You know, dance wasn’t something that I found fun anymore,” the 18-year-old confessed. “It was something that was more just, I did to do it and, you know, it was over when it was over and I didn’t look forward to it anymore. And I think with Dancing With The Stars every week, it’s like, you know, I’m hearing from other people that I finally look like I’m having fun.”

So far, Charli and Mark Ballas have performed two stunning routines. They always receive high marks from the judges and wow the audience members.

“I look happy and I’m feeling, kind of, those same things that I used to feel when I was younger, dancing, that I kind of lost and thought that I wouldn’t find again,” Charli continued. “Just because it had been so long without being that excited for the performance. To be able to do that again is really a full circle moment for me and just makes me really happy.”

Can the dynamic duo defend their first place position?

Mark and Charli earned a total score of 32 for their routine on Elvis Night. They managed to stay at the top of the leaderboard. However, they also had to share the first place spot with two other couples. They tied for first along with Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy as well as Wayne Brady and Witney Carson.

Next week, Charli and Mark will really have to step up their game if they want to hold onto their spot at the top. James Bond Night is the theme for the October 3 episode and anything can happen next.

James Bond Night begins at 8 PM eastern time on Disney+ this Monday night. Tune in and catch Charli and Mark performing the Rumba to “No Time To Die” by Billie Eilish. Mark and Charli need the audience to vote to keep them in the competition. Stay tuned and see what happens in the ballroom next.
