The show first debuted in 1997 and Joy was one of the original panel members along with Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, and Debbie Matenopoulos. Since then, there have been quite a few shakeups in the cast. Joy has been a steady constant, minus her hiatus in 2013.
She revealed that it was actually not her choice to leave the show at that time. According to Joy Behar, someone wanted her gone. At the same time, she admitted she didn’t love the direction The View was taking at that time. She said she was actually glad that ABC chose not to renew her contract.
“That’s not the first time I’ve been fired for my politics,” she said about being fired from The View. Despite being fired, she was asked to come back as a guest host a number of times. By 2015, she was back in a full-time hosting position on the show.
There Are No Plans To Leave The View Now
In a conversation with Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner, Joy Behar recalled the last time the pop star was on The View. Geri got to sit down with Joy Behar and Barbara Walters, along with a number of other prior panel members, at the peak of the Spice Girl’s popularity.

“We were sitting right next to each other,” Joy said to Geri. “We were having a good time.” They took a look at a vintage clip from The View of the last time Geri Halliwell appeared on the show.
Joy asked Geri what she remembered about the late 90s interview. Geri responded that the one thing she really took away from it was Barbara Walters’ camera smile. After that, Geri always had a specific smile ready for interviews.
While they recalled the old days, Geri looked at Joy and said “And you’re still standing. I love it!” To which Joy replied, “They’ll take me out of here in a coffin, probably.” Geri and the rest of the panelists of The View burst out laughing at that. So, Joy Behar doesn’t have any plans to leave The View any time soon.
