Two ‘Bachelorette’ Contestants Nearly Drown After Boat Sinks
Two contestants from Season 20 of The Bachelorette had a near-death experience after their boat sank off the coast of San Diego. Keep reading for all the harrowing details and the heroes that saved them.
Charity Lawson Reveals Post-Show Life
Season 20 of The Bachelorette ended happily with an engagement between Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko. During the After the Final Rose special, she got another special surprise when her fiance revealed she’d been chosen to compete in the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.
Given that both Olubeko and Lawson are based on the East Coast, how will their relationship survive the distance? She shared that he would join her in L.A. during her time in the dance competition.
Despite rumored hiccups in their relationship, Charity Lawson recently opened up about how the support from her fiance is helping her prepare for the show.
Bachelor Nation fans can watch Charity Lawson on Dancing With The Stars when Season 32 kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8 PM on ABC and Disney+.
Two Former Contestants Nearly Drown After Boat Sinks
Two former contestants on Season 20 of The Bachelorette got their own happy ending on Monday when they were rescued from the water off the coast of San Diego.
Brayden Bowers was the villain of the season, often butting heads with the other men on the show. He ultimately found the experience too difficult and quit during week 4 of the season.
Aaron Schwartzman didn’t even make it that far, getting eliminated the week before. The two formed an unlikely friendship after the season ended and were on a fishing trip on a boat owned by Schwartzman with three other friends when disaster struck.
The group was about 15 miles offshore when the boat suddenly sank.
During an interview with the local Fox 5 news station, Bowers explained how the boat incident happened. He said, “My buddy Gavin, he got his line stuck on the engine propeller, so Aaron just went to the back of the boat to lift the engine up and try and untangle it…. all of a sudden, as soon as he stands on the swim deck…the boat literally just sunk.”
Luckily, the occupants of the boat knew how to handle such an emergency. Aaron Schwartzman is a firefighter, while Brayden Bowers is an Army vet.
“We just tried to paddle to shore, so we linked arms and we kind of just started kicking,” Bowers told the news station. The outlet reports that the five men were in the water for over three hours before rescue came.
A man named Chris Keeran and his cousin, TJ, were fishing nearby and saw something reflect on the water. When investigating what they thought was a yellowfin tuna, they found “a school of men,” Keeran said of the rescue.
The five men, including the two Bachelorette contestants, made it to shore without injury. The same can’t be said for Schwartzman’s boat.
