‘American Pickers’ Fans Upset Over Schedule Change

On Tuesday, the History Channel made an abrupt schedule change that left many American Pickers fans angered and confused.

For a lot of TV fans, a schedule is as important to them as a road map is to a traveler. The who, what, when, why, and where answers in a programming schedule are vital pieces of information that can determine exactly what a person is going to watch on TV. When that schedule isn’t adhered to, it can throw everything out of order. For American Pickers fans, they found that out the hard way as they tuned in for a supposed “all-new” episode on Tuesday.

Instead of a new episode, American Pickers ran a “Best Of” episode that left many fans feeling like they had been tricked. Listed as “All-New” in many programming guides, the August 30 episode was simply a re-airing of “Waves and Wheels.” The episode first aired on March 8, 2017. For many, it seems disingenuous to list a rerun as a new episode. Slapping a “Best Of” tag on a show and re-airing a 6-year-old episode didn’t sit well with fans of the show.

As American Picker fans realized that they were watching a rerun on Tuesday, they quickly turned to social media to voice their confusion. On Facebook, fans couldn’t help but wonder if there was some sort of mix-up. Under an August 30th post that featured a clip with hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz discovering WWll relics, fans voiced their concerns.

“Why wasn’t there a show on tonight?” asked one concerned fan.

Another user chimed in and reiterated the confusion. “We are thinking the same thing. Why does it say this is a ‘new’ episode!” they wrote.

A third Facebook user was a little more blunt in their observation. They noted the mislabeling of the episode. “Another ‘Best of’ episode is not ‘New.’ It’s literally the opposite of new.”

This isn’t the first time that American Pickers fans have voiced their displeasure with the show in recent memory.

The State Of ‘American Pickers’

When longtime co-host and fan favorite, Frank Fritz, was unceremoniously removed from the show, fans questioned the show’s direction.

As reported by TV Show Ace, Fritz dealt with a serious addiction issue that forced the History Channel star to check into rehab. Despite Fritz’s decision to seek help and overcome his addiction, American Pickers fired him from the show in 2021. Since his firing, the show’s rating has taken a plunge.

American Pickers fans have taken notice of the show’s new direction. For some, this new direction has been detrimental to the show. One X user couldn’t help but let their distaste for the updated show be known. “Not excited at all. American Pickers was a great show. But as the controversy and cast changes were going on. It took its toll. I just don’t like it as much anymore…” the user wrote.

There’s no denying that ratings for American Pickers have been sliding in recent years. What was once a History Channel heavyweight has become a shell of its former self. Did the network label a rerun as new in the hopes of boosting the ratings on purpose?

What do you think? Was this a case of a simple mistake? Or do you feel like the History Channel was intentionally deceptive in the schedule change? Let us know how you feel down below in the comments.

  1. If it had been a new “Best of”, you might explain it. I knew Pickers was in trouble when the History channel ran a marathon of Pickers, I believe on Memorial Day (it may have been July 4). That was just disrespectful.

  2. I once was a faithful fan of the show until Frank Fritz was removed. I have not watched it since and don’t intended to.
