Maci Bookout Admits To Being Distraught About Ryan’s Overdose

Maci Bookout shares how Ryan Edward’s overdose truly made her feel when she first found out. A teaser for the new episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter shows the emotional mother breakdown when recalling the tragic event. Although things haven’t always been good between Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards, he’s still the father of her oldest Bentley, and she will always care. The two were only together for about two years before calling it quits in 2009. But fans have watched the couple’s drama unfold for more than a decade now!

Ryan hasn’t changed a bit with his ways, which has caused his relationship with his wife to go downhill. Mackenzie Edwards married Ryan Edwards in 2017 but filed for divorce in 2023 after he was arrested with drug and harassment charges.

Maci Bookout Speaks Out About Ex Ryan Edward’s Overdose

Maci took the news of her ex Ryan Edwards overdosing very hard. She reveals in a teaser for the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter that when she first heard the news she was genuinely so scared. Maci explains:

“When I found out that Ryan had overdosed, that’s truly the first time I was genuinely scared and it was so hard”

The camera cuts to a conversation between Maci and Bentley, her 15-year-old son, Bentley, Ryan’s oldest as well. While the clip of the two doesn’t feature Maci and Bentley talking, it shows the pair looking very serious.

The teaser didn’t reveal the exact timeline of Ryan’s overdose. But in April the Teen Mom OG star was found unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his truck. Ryan had already been arrested twice at the beginning of 2023, he was booked this time for simple possession of a controlled substance and a DUI. Us Weekly reported: that the driver’s side front tire hit the curb on the center medium where the vehicle then came to a stop. Ryan was found with a bag containing:

“crystal-type substance, and a second small bag of what appeared to be a blue powder.”

Once at the hospital, he advised them he had snorted a powder before waking up in the back of the ambulance. That’s all Ryan could recall of the situation.

Ryan Edward’s Relationship With Bentley Now

Although Ryan was serving time in jail, Maci Bookout reveals that his relationship with Bentley had actually grown stronger and was better than ever. Maci shares:

“I think as crazy as it is, because he is in jail right now, he shows up and communicates with Bentley, I think, more consistently now than he ever has, which is mind-blowing, and it makes me feel good as the mom to just know that like, although Ryan made really bad decisions and is paying the consequences for them, I’m glad to see that that hasn’t stopped him from showing up or, like, calling and communicating because in the past that would’ve halted everything.”

Ryan has since been released from jail and is serving a few months in a halfway house. It seems that he’s still keeping up his relationship with Bentley. On August 27, Bentley shared a photo of him and his father, stepdad Taylor Mckinney, and grandfather Larry Edwards. The 15-year-old captioned the photo:
“Family”

It was a sweet picture showing they all could get along for Bentley’s well-being!
