Is ‘Survivor’ Going To Have An All-Stars Season?

Survivor executive producer and host Jeff Probst.

As the premiere of Season 45 quickly approaches, Survivor fans can’t help but look ahead at the potential return of All-Stars.

On September 27, the 45th season of Survivor will premiere on CBS. The long-time-running competitive show will return to the Mamanuca Islands in what promises to be a season to remember. CBS has yet to officially reveal the full cast, but one name has already been confirmed. Season 44 contestant Bruce Perreault will make his return to the island. Perreault was unfortunately injured and removed from the show during last season’s first episode.

As for the other 17 contestants, fans can expect a diverse cast that offers fair representation and inclusion. In 2020, CBS instituted a mandate that requires all reality shows to feature a cast that includes 50% Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

Gauging the possibility of the return of All-Stars

With Season 45 a little over a month away, fans are already speculating about the future return of All-Stars. The last season to showcase All-Stars was in 2020, the show’s 40th season. Survivor: Winners At War saw Tony Vlachos outlast the others and win with a 12-4 vote. Vlachos became just the show’s second two-time winner, after previously winning Survivor: Cagayan.

Although there hasn’t been any official word as of yet, Survivor fans are eyeing Season 50 as a possible All-Star season. In a November 2022 interview with EW, Probst wouldn’t give a definitive answer about when fans could see a return of All-Stars. But it does sound like he is open to the idea of bringing back the All-Stars format. “…The truly honest answer is we don’t know. We are definitely open to returning players, from any era, but we don’t plan that far ahead. Right now, we like the excitement of new players. But you never know when an idea will spark and we’ll be picking up the phone to start calling former players, hoping they say yes!”

Okay, maybe his answer isn’t the most convincing, but any possibility of bringing in the All-Stars is enough for most Survivor die-hards. Although Probst and CBS haven’t offered any further insight into a potential All-Star season in the future, it seems likely that one will be on the horizon at some point. According to the Broadcast Official Nationals Program Ratings Chart on May 24, 2023, Survivor’s Season 44 finale saw just 4.41 million live viewers. It would make sense for the show to try anything to boost ratings for upcoming seasons.

Contestants don’t become a Survivor All-Star for no reason. They know how to play the game and how to make for great TV. What do you think? Should Survivor only focus on bringing in new faces each season? Or would you like to see the return of the All-Stars? Let us know how you feel in the comments.
