Former WWE wrestling legend and reality television personality Hulk Hogan has broken his silence about his drug addiction.

The larger-than-life figure endured endless physical trials while wrestling for WWE. As a result, his body required dozens of surgeries, all of which led to intense pain that needed treatment. Hulk has revealed that one day he realized things had gone too far in his quest to ease his pain. Read on to find out what Hulk has said about his addiction to drugs, as well as why the 70-year-old has quit drinking alcohol.

Hulk Walks Away From Alcohol

Hulk Hogan, real name Terry Gene Bollea, recently spoke with Muscle and Health magazine. The former wrestling star explained that he quit drinking about seven months ago. He recalled, “I was at a New Year’s Eve party, and I saw a bunch of stuff that I didn’t condone or like. I saw myself in this environment and I went, ‘You know what? I don’t know how I got here, but I’m done.'” He said that he was around people with different values than he has, and decided he was, “out.” Now, Hulk said it’s better to be “clear-headed.” And as time passed, he was no longer tempted to drink.

But it hasn’t come without a social cost, the wrestler added. Hulk mused that he has had wrestlers look him in the eye and say, “If you don’t have a drink with me, you’re not my friend.” The reality tv star said he responded to them, “Well, I am your friend, but I’m not going to drink with you.” The wrestling legend and father of two added that he doesn’t have an addictive personality, so he has no problem being around his friends when they drink. And, over time, they have stopped pressuring him to join them.

Hulk credited CBD for helping him kick the bottle, which has led to several positive changes. Since abstaining from alcohol, he has lost around forty pounds. And things are going well in the relationship department, too. In late July, Hulk announced his engagement to 44-year-old yoga instructor Sky Daily, who he dated for about a year before proposing.

CBD also helped him walk away from another addiction. Like so many people, Hulk Hogan’s addiction to painkillers was the result of legitimate pain treatment, prescribed by a doctor. After years of enduring slams, falls, and other intense blows from wrestling colleagues, Hulk had to undergo twenty-five surgeries. These left him in pain, and reliant upon medication for relief.

Even after he recovered from surgery, the former wrestling star continued to take the medications. Hulk said, “I was hitting the pain pills hard because I’d had to endure twenty-five procedures, including ten to my back. Other surgeries included, “facial operations from being kicked, knee and hip replacements, and abdominal and shoulder surgeries.” At times, Hulk found himself in so much pain that he couldn’t function, and he was returning to the surgical table “every four months.” The body, Hulk explained, needs a year to recover between surgeries.

The former reality star conceded that he needed the pain medication while he was in the thick of those surgeries. However, after he recovered, he was still being prescribed strong painkillers. Hulk added, “It got to a point where I’d recovered from the tenth back surgery, and the pharmacy would call me and say, ‘Your prescription’s ready.” He said that he would go pick it up, “like a dog chasing a bone.” But one day the wrestler realized he was no longer in pain and he was ready to get off the rollercoaster.

Now, Hulk explained, he’s still in pain from a lifetime of injuries. But it’s nothing he can’t endure using other pain management methods, including CBD. Hulk now is launching his own CBD and THC brand, hoping to help others break free from dangerous substances.
