The WWE Hall Of Fame said goodbye to a legend as heavyweight weight champ, The Iron Sheik, was confirmed dead. Here is the official statement from his reps confirming his passing via his social media profile:

Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling. It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but we also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

His representatives told his fans they could find comfort in the fact that The Iron Sheik passed away peacefully.

A Closer Look At Who He Was

Born as Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri in 1942 in Iran, The Iron Sheik had some hefty-sized shoes in the WWE ring that won’t be so easily filled by anyone else. In 1983, he secured the heavyweight champ title by taking out Bob Backlund.

One of this WWE legend’s very first rivals was none other than Hulk Hogan himself. Ultimately, however, The Iron Sheik was unable to defeat Hulk Hogan.

As a real force to be reckoned with over the years, his legacy will live on. WWE also broke their silence on confirmation of his passing and issued a statement as well: “WWE is saddened to hear of the passing of WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik, and extends its condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”
