The mystery behind Wheel of Fortune star Vanna White’s absence has finally been revealed. Fans have long wondered if she was going to be leaving the game show. This was a legitimate question seeing that the main host, Pat Sajak is exiting after Season 41 with Ryan Seacrest being his replacement. Vanna was recently absent from the show leaving fans wondering if she had officially been replaced. Now, the reasoning behind her absence has been explained. Read on for more details.
Wheel Of Fortune Mystery Behind Vanna White’s Absence
Vanna White was absent from her letter-turning duties on Wheel of Fortune which made fans wonder what was going on. Had she finally been replaced or axed from her position? The show is undergoing major changes come Season 41 with Ryan Seacrest taking over hosting duties from Pat Sajak. Plus, Vanna has been trying to renegotiate her contract to get more money for her position. She makes a measly three million dollars per year compared to Sajak’s 15 million. Furthermore, she has not gotten a raise in almost two decades.
Therefore, even though Vanna White may not want to leave, it may be her time. However, as it turns out, her absence was not caused by any contract negotiations or a replacement. Though she did have a replacement for a short time, it was not because she is leaving, at least not yet. According to TVLine, White had Covid in July when they were filming an episode that will air in October. Therefore, since it was the annual “Teacher’s Week” episodes, they selected Teacher Of The Year, Bridgette Donald-Blue (California) to play Vanna.
Vanna White has never missed episodes like this before so why not hold off? Per an insider: “Teachers had already arrived in L.A. to tape the episodes and, with the academic school year starting, it was not feasible to reschedule that day. In keeping with the ‘Teachers Week’ theme… Bridgette Donald-Blue graciously agreed fill in for Vanna for those five episodes.” This is actually a great test to see how someone else flows in the position that Vanna has held for over forty years.
Should She Leave?
It is time for Vanna White to hang up her letter-turning hat? After all, she and Pat Sajak are synonymous with one another so it may be a hard adjustment if she stays on with a new host. While some feel she deserves more money, there are others who believe it is time she retired.
She’s had her run on the show. She’s well liked but it’s time to replace her!
