It’s no secret that the Duggars played a significant role in making the Bates famous. However, fans think they’re also the reason behind the family’s sudden departure from reality TV.
Counting On: The Duggars & Bates’ Friendship
Some Duggars and Bates are still in touch despite speculations that they’re no longer what they used to be. According to reports, the supersized families used to spend a lot of time together. But it seems there are only a few who remained close today such as Joy-Anna Duggar and Carlin Bates, who both still post sweet messages for each other online.
James has been spotted multiple times spending time with some of the Bates siblings. Though there are theories that their parents may not be on good terms, especially after patriarch Gil Bates seemingly shaded Jim Bob Duggar when Josh’s scandal was revealed to the public. The Bates family made their exit from the reality show in June 2021. According to UPtv, they canceled Bringing Up Bates due to the network’s goal of moving in a different direction. Many were shocked by the sudden cancellation. But some speculated that being friends with the Duggars played a significant role in their departure. Jim Bob and his family were in a hot spot due to Josh’s CSAM arrest back in April 2021, which is only two months before the Bates got their 11th season canceled, and others think it wasn’t a coincidence.

Despite being long-time family friends, a Duggar-Bates courtship never happened. However, there are rumors that James may be in pre-courtship with a Bates girl, who’s waiting for a year before turning 18. The 22-year-old Duggar had shared clips and pictures with Addallee Bates on Instagram. Jim Bob’s 13th child has yet to address the speculations. But some fans think he’s been preparing himself for the next chapter of his life.
