Celebrity couple Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian Barker have been in the spotlight frequently with their announcement of a new little bundle on the way. Now after a year of marriage, Kourtney Kardashian revealed it was finally official that she took her husband Travis Barker’s last name. The two have shared quite a bit over the past few years. Blink 182 drummer and the Poosh founder have taken many steps together. Most recently, Travis Barker reflected on a traumatic plane crash he survived in 2008.  During a Threads feed, he explained how his wife has helped him through a difficult fear of flying that has been present since the horrific experience 13 years ago.

Travis Barker’s Past Trauma

As an illustration of how far he has come, Travis Barker posted an update about completing his thirtieth flight since his traumatizing plane crash in 2008. He lived through a devasting accident that took the lives of four other passengers. Travis Barker and DJ AM’s (Adam Michael Goldstein) plane went down shortly after takeoff when they were leaving South Carolina. They both survived but were injured. Unfortunately, Barker’s security guard Charles “Che” Still, his assistant Chris Baker, pilot Sarah Lemmon, and co-pilot James Bland were killed in the wreck.

Surviving the wreckage, Travis Barker and DJ AM were still injured with third-degree burns covering a large part of their bodies. According to People in 2008, “The plane crashed on takeoff and went through a fence near Highway 302, then crossed the road and went up an embankment before being filled with flames.” People continued saying, “There was debris all over the runway. We are closed now and hope to reopen later today.” Sadly, although DJ AM made it through the crash, he died the next year from a prescription drug overdose.

Traveling Through The Path Of Healing

Admittedly, Travis Barker has spoken about the difficult journey it has been both mentally and physically to heal from the tragedy. He is celebrating the fact he has completed thirty flights since then. The Blink 182 drummer credits this victory to his wife, Kourtney Kardashian Barker. Even though he had overwhelming fear, Travis Barker says Kourtney Kardashian is the reason he boarded a plane again. After 13 years, the reality star was by her then-boyfriend’s side supporting him as he flew to Cabo on Kylie Jenner‘s private jet. The couple joined Kris Jenner and her boyfriend Corey Gamble on the trip.

“It’s a huge deal that Travis flew to Cabo. The plane crash many years ago was extremely traumatizing. He has needed a lot of help to get to this point,” a source relayed to People. “Kourtney has been very supportive. She never pushed for him to fly. They have managed to travel in the U.S. without having to fly, and Kourtney has been totally fine with it.”

Triumph Through The Blue Skys

Travis Barker gives praise to his wife for helping him conquer the crippling fear of boarding a plane. He gave a shout-out on Threads saying, “Wouldn’t be able to tour or enjoy life again the way I do without the healing love of my amazing wife. I love you @kourtneykardash,” he continued. Travis Barker has undergone several surgeries since the incident. Also, he had skin grafts to heal from the substantial burns he received during the 2008 wreck. Additionally, Barker worked through reliance on weed and prescription drug use. “People are always like, ‘Did you go to rehab?'” he told the outlet. “And I [say], ‘No, I was in a plane crash.’ That was my rehab. Lose three of your friends and almost die? That was my wake-up call. If I wasn’t in a crash, I would have probably never quit.”

His fear of flying became so drastically strong, that even seeing a plane while walking outside would give him a panic attack. This milestone of thirty flights since the crash marks an outstanding accomplishment. The couple is very happy to be able to help each other heal and stand by through difficult times. Together, they are extremely excited to have a new baby as well.
