Earlier this month, Amazon Prime Video released a new docuseriesShiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. It discusses the Duggars and their religious beliefs. They are a part of the IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles). The series is primarily about the Duggars, though the Bates are also involved in the IBLP.

The Duggar family has issued a statement about the “derogatory” docuseries. They are unhappy about the series and the way it portrays their family.

Bringing Up Bates Star Alyssa Bates Webster Speaks Out

On Instagram this week, Alyssa Bates Webster hosted a Q&A session. She allowed fans to send in their questions and answered a variety of them. One fan asked whether Alyssa has watched the series.

In response, she said, “I have not. I honestly don’t even like talking about it. We all have our personal story and we all draw our own opinions. I see truth and lies and I see both sides even though I don’t necessarily agree with either.”

Then, the Bringing Up Bates star added, “At the end of the day the only person I follow is Jesus and what the Bible clearly teaches. That’s it.”

Fans will have to wait and see whether the Bates family says anything else about the docuseries. As we’ve reported, it’s possible that a second season, which has not yet been confirmed, could focus on the Bates family instead. The executive producer mentioned wanting to go into detail about the Bates family, but there was far too much to cover. So, in that case, they may be more likely to speak out at that point.

So, what do you think of Alyssa Bates Webster’s statement about Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets? Do you think any other Bringing Up Bates family members will share their thoughts?
