Currently, Olivia is processing the loss of her younger brother, Micah Meggs, who passed away at the age of 15. He was hit by a car while riding his bike and died at the scene. On social media, Olivia has made several posts about him and this heartbreaking time in her family’s life.
Olivia Plath is estranged from her parents.
As TV Shows Ace reported, Olivia is distanced from her parents due to her decision not to live a religious lifestyle today. They have cut her off and have not allowed her to see her younger siblings for several years. This is especially challenging due to the loss of her brother. She feels like she missed out on many opportunities to know him better.
Along with this, she’s sharing even more about the relationship she has with her family today.
The Welcome to Plathville star talks about her cult upbringing.
In another Instagram Stories post, Olivia thanked her followers for their love and support. Then, she opened up more about her relationship with her family. She said:
“Losing my little brother highlights the clash between my childhood and my adulthood. I grew up in a religious cult and when I left, I lost access to my younger siblings. I don’t talk about my family of origin very often because they haven’t chosen a public life like I have.”
The Welcome to Plathville star made it clear that she doesn’t want to disrespect her family by sharing too much about her upbringing so publicly. She simply wants to talk about “my childhood experiences with abuse, religious trauma, and control.”
With this, she mentioned the “strict control” her parents still have on her, which kept her from spending time with her brother. She pointed out that the Plath family and her own upbringing “are quite similar.”
She added that “religion has silenced so many women and protected so many abusers.”
