Shark Tank had its season finale on Friday night and several fans called out the show for what they referred to as a “scripted” reality TV moment. The moment involved two sharks who got a great deal and a touching moment with Lori Greiner reacting to the entrepreneurs.

Here is what happened on the season finale and why fans didn’t like it.

Shark Tank goes all in on Eyewris Reading Glasses

Two of the people seeking sharks to invest in their products were Mark Singer and Kenzo Singer, two men who founded the Eyewris Folding Reading Glasses company. This business offered a great solution for people who needed to carry reading glasses with them at all times.

The Eyewris Folding Reading Glasses were glasses that folded up and became wearable on a person’s wrist. The glasses had ultra-durable lenses to protect them from bumps. They also folded closed over a person’s wrist, so they could wear them like a bracelet when not using them. It was an idea that the sharks really liked.

Mark and Kenzo wanted to get only $25,000 for a 5% ownership from a Shark Tank investor. This seemed like nothing, and that is what it really amounted to. Mark, who helped create Gorilla Glue in the past, had already invested $630,000 in the company, and they didn’t need the help of the sharks. However, they wanted to secure something for the company’s future.

Lori offered up $25,000 for a 10% investment. Kevin O’Leary offered them $50,000 for a 10% investment. Then, the other three sharks wanted in as well. Mark said they didn’t want to go beyond a 15% share, but then all five sharks asked to go in on it together. They asked for 25% interest in the company for $125,000. When Kenzo asked to drop to 20%, Lori said they had a deal.

Shark Tank has possibly a “scripted” moment on season finale

What caught fans the wrong way were a couple of moments in the Shark Tank segment that felt scripted. Some people wondered why they chose not to take Lori’s 10% and ended up stretching things out to get all five sharks on board. It seemed manufactured. “I like the other sharks but Eyewris could do it with one shark,” one fan tweeted.

The big thing that had some fans questioning the moment was when they asked why Mark wanted the investment if he really didn’t need the money. He said he wanted to put his kid in competent hands when he is not here anymore. This led Lori to tears, as she said that it “got her” that he was concerned about Kenzo. Kevin said it was “unprecedented” to have every single shark wanting to back them.

“It felt utterly scripted as each Shark said their line about joining in,” a Redditor concluded.
