What is Tones Of Melanin Collegiate Wear on Shark Tank

A Norfolk State University graduate invented the Tones of Melanin Collegiate Wear clothing company. Ashley Jones created it with one purpose. As a Black woman-owned company, she used her clothing to celebrate the culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The clothes she sells include a mix of streetwear, vintage, and collegiate fashion. Furthermore, Jones herself oversees the design and production of the clothing.

Jones wants Tones of Melanin Collegiate Wear to embody the pride of HBCUs and offer job opportunities to HBCU students and alumni. The company has also been responsible for donations of over $50,000 to HBCU educational endeavors. Jones wants her company to move into a market that usually only deals with Ivy League schools.

The clothing includes everything from hoodies and T-shirts to hats and book bags. It is also reasonably priced, at between $20 to $135 per item. According to Jones, she noticed a lack of apparel that resonated with her and her peers. She then started small, selling T-shirts from her backpack in 2015, and eventually launched the company in 2017. Jones also works in philanthropic endeavors, such as providing attire for the Virginia State University band.
